Vintage, PVT & 2 Litre Forum / Re: 4 life coolant
« on: November 14, 2019, 11:15:18 »
I looked at the Evans water less coolant and decided it was not worth it.

Most of these products claim to cure what are in my opinion underlying issues ( such as overheating).

I recall you have a triumph engine now so is that all steel- they advise against grease/ gland water pump use and in unpressurised systems? Is there an issue you want to solve by using this product?

AC alloy engine users would have to check it provides suitable alloy protection. I like it’s ph sensor in fluid to detect head gasket failure.

It’s expensive relative to regular A/F but can likely be drained and reused if a problem occurs. Higher boiling point of 180 degrees could be useful but they don’t give enough technical info to compare with a regular antifreeze mix or state at what pressure this boiling point is at ( 5psi ,10psi).

I appreciate you sharing this and the vinyl paint in other thread as it’s good to be aware of new products( did Toyota /shell not do a 4 life af?)

Thanks for sharing that. Was a lucky escape with no bodily or panel injuries!

Did the incident happen in motion or in the garage when trying to get the nut off. It looks like there is a heat issue on the taper ( black marks) .
Interested from a safety point -this link had a lower front ball joint that broke a few years back.

Ace 'Brooklands' Forum / Re: Front Suspension Mods

Max,
That looks like a very sensible/smart  modification. I am not a ACE Brooklands owner  but that takes your set up very close to whats on the Mkiv CRS -I did an article in Action for setting that up around Q4 2013  and had been supplied by John Owen a method to adjust caster & camber simultaneously. (Its proportional to the Thread pitch)

On the CRS you can also adjust the rear camber--not sure how the ACE is set up but might bring further dividends.

Good find- that sounds a sensible & correct way of fitting and adjusting the cable/quadrant.

I started the opposite way round (in the pedal box)  hence had tension in cable at clutch arm.

I would un bolt it and check for clues. The picture at the beginning of the thread is hard to see to compare.

Re adjusting -its an automatic adjustment which  you activate/set to correct position  by putting your foot under the clutch pedal (once cable  is installed  etc) and pulling up on the pedal with your foot. This adjusts the mechanism/ratchet pawl  and cable to the correct position.

What ever you do , dont start the engine till clutch cable has  been adjusted properly  and has a bit of slack.

From one of the old threads (Search quadrant) the ford part number for a 50mm plastic one is (UK RHD CRS at least) 6183029

Kevin,
Thas useful info and I have dropped R&B an email.
The issue may be that an adjustable clutch cable will need to be made up also.

This could be a project to make some 50mm ones if no ready made alternatives surface.

I have not been a victim of the plastic quadrant thru breakage but got caught out by the automatic adjustment so would prefer manual, though I now know all about resetting the quadrant after fitting a new clutch cable.

Lonzo ,
Has the car been jacked up at all as the split lock collets that hold the spring to the shock can become unseated if the spring is set loosely. Might be worth checking , but as Barrie suggests you will have to start at the front , tyres off and start comparing each side/working out firstly why one side is higher than  the other.

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Re: Aceca opinion
« on: August 10, 2019, 11:02:47 »
I am not an Aceca person but the forum did pick up on the incorrect & missleading  wording of the silverstone listing you posted-

"Engine No: 100 D2 813 Bristol D2 engine, the first Aceca fitted with the Bristol engine"   as being wrong. (plenty of Bristol engined Acecas before this one).
It may be the first with this variant of engine (D2).

From a personal perspective the colour would put me off.

Lonzo,
You dont state where you are (For specialist options)  or if car LHD or RHD or if on 16" or 15" rims& tyres.

The front RH corner being higher -is that with fuel & driver in car (if RHD) as this may explain that.
16" and 15" set ups will change the ride height without touching anything else.

What made you decide its to high given you have had it like this 2 yrs?

There are /were  shorter uprated springs available  (about 1" shorter) in period, and I have some on my CRS with Konis. You say you dont know if the springs came with the Spax so theres another potential source of discrepancy.
An autokraft drawing from 1985 I have shows the Front spring as D1112 length 11.52" (free) 10 coils and the rear(D1143) free length 12" and 9 coils.
For reference my springs are 10.25" free length front & back. These are Uniclip uprated (+25%)springs supplied by Thunder road)

If you have the original konis they can be rebuilt (I have the contacts) and you would be able to see if they have springs and make comparative measurements to the spax.

If in the UK there are specialists who know this stuff and have spares in the ACOC magazine.
