Great work Keith! I am in for 1 and possibly 2 if they make the original version. I'll also try to call Ron Leonard and see if he wants any. 1 question, I do not understand the comments on the seal/anti splash. Does that mean they are available, but will cost extra?

Glen,
I am away from my cars right now, otherwise I would post a pic, but are there any ~1/16" holes visible on the front or back side? That is where the Set screws would be. They are not visible on the surface and are found by inserting a hex wrench into the hole. If you have an owner's manual I think it has the instructions in it.

Glen, Its been awhile, but I believe there are a couple of set screws that hold the pins in. Did you remove those? If so and you are still having problems, then the brass bush may help, but on one of mine I never could get the pin out and ended up cutting it off and re-welding a new one. The ones I did get out came out after large amounts of heating/cooling and using a brass bush as you describe. Good Luck.

Earlier in the thread I thought it was stated the ACOC was looking for more members. From where I sit, a post such as this does nothing but drive people (new and old) away. It seems someone is shooting themselves in the foot and then reloading for more shots. I an guessing it is really not meant to be as mean spirited as it appears, but it is very difficult to understand the full intent when you cannot talk to a person face to face.
On a related note, could you please refrain from using the term "cuckoos" when referring to us non-members as it is an affront to birds everywhere.  Since the goal seems to be to keep things as in the past, perhaps referring to us on this side of the pond as "Upstart Colonists" would be better.    Such base insults have no place in a club of any standing and are utterly disgusting from the individual concerned.

As stated earlier, this sort of thing degrades the Club publicly and only serves to demonstrate that the Forum in its current form does the Club no favours.

To see an example of how a forum should be run and its rules and guidelines, refer to the Bristol Owners' Club website.

However it is probable that it is fortunate enough not to have members of the calibre of the sort of person who sink so low to write such revolting comments.

To anyone looking in from the outside this must appear absolutely disgraceful and must have put more nails in the coffin than can be imagined. The writer should be utterly ashamed of such comments.

As far as membership payments are concerned, I constructively suggest the Club's Council of Management does some research into how other clubs manage this situation and then in the light of those findings, decide what, if any, are the best changes to be made for the benefit of the ACOC and its future smooth running and success.

General Forum / Membership fee payment

I'll throw in my thoughts here. I am not a member and there are few reasons and the membership payment is not one of them. I own a few different cars in addition to the Aces. I have a 1966 Shelby GT350 carryover, 1972 Pontiac Lemans convertible, a 1994 Mazda Miata (MX-5 to the rest of the world), and a few off road vehicles. Each marque has its own set of clubs and the local ones available are 4 for the Shelby (not including the racing clubs), 3 for the Pontiac, and 2 different British car clubs for the Ace. With an average price of $50/membership, I join the local ones that have events I can attend. This is not to discount the effort that ACOC members have put forth on behalf of AC owners ( it is tremendous), and if I was in the UK I would certainly be an active member. Unfortunately, when I am this far away I go with what is local. As for the forum, if it were closed to only members, I am not sure it would be beneficial to anyone. I would presume ACOC would still run it, but the knowledge/participation base would diminish. Even though I am not a ACOC member I do my best to help out here whenever I can, and I think forum members and myself would lose a bit if I and other non-members were excluded. As was stated above, Thank you to all that help make the forum happen and I appreciate it being available.

As an FYI, I pulled out my NOS quadrant from my 86 Fox body mustang and while the quadrant is mounted differently, it looks like it is the same piece as is shown in the first pic. Jim can probably confirm the P/N but I am guessing the quadrant will be from a Fox body mustang application.

I was also thinking this. If anyone is interested, I have an NOS one for the Foxbody mustang somewhere in the garage that I bought for my '86 SVO and never used. I would have to dig it out and check to see if it matches the pics above to be sure of a match. However, Ron is right about someone making a metal replacement for the Fox body quadrants and if they are the same, that would probably be a better replacement for a daily driver.

Art and Keith,
Excellent idea and effort. I hope it works out as the person who was working on the reproductions, is still working on them and has no expected completion dates.

Rick,
First of all welcome. As for the gas cap I have also been looking for one of those and the only thing I have found so far is the Norton Commando gas cap made by Ceandess. It is not exact as the button is ribbed and not smooth, and it it is only the cap portion, not the body. If you do a search on Ceandess-Norton-Commando, you should be able to find a pic. There is a guy in New Hampshire (Nick Acton) that has said he is working on remaking them, but as of about 6 months ago he did not have a finished product. I'll see if I can find contact info for him. If someone other than me contacts him about needing one, maybe he will move it up on the priority list.

Glen,
For number 2 see this thread

#3- Try Dayton Wire Wheels in the US, or MWS in the UK.

#5- I have a detailed Bristol engine/transmission manual but am not sure if it is unique to the Ace. There are no Ace specific instructions that I have found, but it as some letters between AC ltd and an Ace owner from the 60s so it may have been what was available at the time. In fact, one of the letters from AC quotes a "Bristol Shop Manual" for the sum of 2.10.- lbs, and it may be the manal I have. I can probably scan in a page or 2 if you would like to see what it looks like.

All,
I think Jamey is a dealer that is planning on selling the car and is trying to understand it value for that. I could be wrong, but since it is at the link below, I am guessing the plan is to sell it

   http://vipmotors.us/inventory.html

At the link go to page 3 and scroll down and you will see more pics.

Jamey, as the owner of a V8 Ace conversion, I have found establishing the value is a bit tricky. I do know there was a V8 powered Ace for sale in Az earlier this year and the asking price was $125K, but I am not sure if it sold, or how its condition would compare to what you have. Just out of curiosity, what V8/tranny is in it and do you have some pics of the engine bay? It looks to be a Ford shifter, but I have seen those adapted to non Ford trannys.

Jamey,
There should be a 4 digit number on the hood hinge, door hinge, and trunk hinge. With this number we can probably tell you what it started life as. If you want you can call me at 805 969-1841 and I can better describe where the numbers will be. Also, if the pics posted are of the car in question, the emblems would suggest it was powered by an AC engine originally which would make it an AEX#### car.

Art is correct that Thermography could be used for this, but it depends on the sensitivity of the camera being used. Below is a link that shows a motorcycle engine warming up and over the exhaust is a heat shield. The heat shield warms up at a different rate and so it is clearly visible.

   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IYkgZXfBjOc&feature=related

This is the same thing that may be visible on the car door, but you will need a fairly sensitive camera to see it.

Below is another example of what can be seen using a Thermal camera.

   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wWxMj64sKgM&feature=related

Go to ~3 minutes and 33 secs and you can see the stripes on a zebra. This is analogous to what you would be doing in looking for a number on a door.
