Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / BQX1630?
« on: January 09, 2013, 15:17:40 »
Just to be clear, while heavily modified Aces have followed me home in the past, I am not looking to have this join the pack of mutts. My inquiry is primarily out of curiosity as to the history of this car. With that in mind, I have sent a couple of questions to the seller to try and get clarification on the chassis and body. I'll post after I hear back.

Trevor,
This brings up a question I have had for some time. What the law is regarding vintage pictures that are published in many different books? There are many pics (such as the overhead one of CSX2063 with out a body)that have been in numerous books throughout the years. Are these considered Public Domain or are they copyrighted by each person who uses them and you need permission to use a copy. I understand copyrights on recent pics that are unique to books, but am unsure of the other ones.
For my question,I am not talking about using them in a book, but instead am wondering about using them on a web site or a forum thread.

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Front Suspension Question
« on: November 23, 2012, 15:45:41 »
I had always thought the same thing, but was looking at the well published picture of CSX2063 (on Pg 28 of Trevor's Cobra The Real Thing) and noticed the disc brakes were in front of the wheel spindle like the Ace, and the wishbone mtg points were on top of the tube. Pictures I have seen of MkII Cobras have the wishbone mtg points slightly outboard, and the disc brakes located behind the front wheel spindle. Based on this, I was thinking the front suspension was the same, but have seen reference to the front leaf being different and so am not sure about the pieces or geometry. The reason for the question is an Ace owner is trying to source some suspension components and is considering using some Cobra parts as they seem to be more readily available. If the Early Cobra is the same as the Ace, it may open up more options to him.

They are Cleco pins and go through the aluminum into the holes in the tubing. They are spring loaded and hold the panels in place for fit up and then allow for clean riveting when the time comes.
Here is a demo of their use-

Bernie, In addition to MWS you can also try Dayton Wire Wheels.

However, the MWS web site is full of very good information so it is worth checking out.

The findings in Consumer's reports being what they may, clearly I did not have that result. Maybe Vredestein produces a tighter tire!

   Gus,
I had read that report many years ago shortly after the test was done and decided to check N purity levels that are being used now. It looks like the N levels being used now are higher and so maybe your tire dealer uses a much higher purity N than the 95% from th original test.

   Acecaracer,
If water vapor causes the fluctuations, could you use dried air and get the same results?

For an impartial study of the leak rates of Nitrogen vs Air in tires, have a look at the link below. I have not seen anything similar for pressure stabilization, so am not sure about those claims.

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / 1958 Sebring ? / Neat Old Photo

The Roll Bar looks very similar to the one that was in Ak Miller's Ace that he took to Bonneville and set some land speed records with. Since Ak had stated his car was originally raced at the Sebring in '58, maybe 38T became Ak's car that went to Bonneville. Unfortunately, if the car from the pic became Ak's car, I believe it no longer exists as it was later rebodied as a Devin for Pike's Peak runs where it was identified as a Cobra/Devin.

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Looking for AC factory photo
« on: May 12, 2012, 16:34:26 »
I have finished my little project that I was looking for the color picture to support. My goal was to try and assign Chassis numbers to the cars in the above picture and with the help of the color picture and the AC factory delivery records, I have  guess at what the Chasis numbers are for the cars. The main car that helps with the ID is the Aceca which is gold, and according to what I have seen makes it AEX566. This defines the picture as having been taken prior to it shipping which was in late March 1956. Going through the other cars and comparing colors to the shipping records. Below is what I have come up with from left to right.

   AEX566- Gold Aceca
AEX132- Green Ace with Natural Interior
AEX131- Red Ace with Black Interior (there are 3 Red Aces so all of these could be interchanged)
AEX128- Black Ace with Red Interior
AEX124- White Ace with Red Interior
AEX130- Red Ace, but Interior is not visible in color picture.
AEX129- Red Ace, but Interior is not visible in color picture. The double row bumper might positively ID the chassis number.
AEX127- Green Ace,but Interior is not visible in color picture.
AEX122- Black Ace, but Interior is not visible in color picture. Another double row bumper which might elp with a positive ID.
AEX123- White Ace, but Interior is not visible in color picture.
AEX126- Silver Ace, but Interior is not visible in color picture.
AEX125- Black Ace, but Interior is not visible in color picture. I believe this to be 125, because 125 shows evidence of having a boot rack and this car has one from the factory.
There is also a car on the back, just in front of the entrance and I believe it is silver which would probably make it AEX140.

If any believes they have any info that might shed more or different light on the cars, please let me know. What would be a great piece of the puzzle to confirm or dispel my IDs would be a color version of the picture I posted above. Being able to see the interior of the cars on the right would help immensely. Again, these are just my guesses based on the info available

Keith, To echo what others have said, even though this has taken much time, thank you very much for taking this on. It is very much appreciated.

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Looking for AC factory photo
« on: April 19, 2012, 06:43:56 »
Hi Keith,
I went looking for my copy of the book you referenced, but found out I do not have a copy of it. Instead I have 2 copies of The Classic ACs- Two Litre to Cobra. I guess it is time to buy a new book. However, I found the color picture I was looking for in Rinsey Mills' book AC six cylinder Sports Cars in Detail, and it is on page 117. Is this same picture you are referencing? Also, if anyone has a color picture of the picture I posted originally, that would help with what I am working on.
