CF 64 Bits and Pieces
« on: July 10, 2008, 03:40:09 »
I finally have the car painted and we are now emptying the boxes of bits and pieces that came with the car when purchased. Of course there are a few broken and missing pieces like

   Front turn signal lens
   Rear Lens set
   AC logo for the nose
   Ash tray for centre console
   Header tank for coolant system
Chrome boss for light fixture in the door (when open)

Any suggestions or information would be greatly appreciated.

Essentially good luck, they are all rather hard to find and this forum is not much help in sourcing rare parts (see the lack of response to my appeals for help in sourcing specific parts).

The front indicators are a rare type used for a specific version of the karmann ghia so try for a VW specialist.
I believe rear lenses are Alfa.
Front logo is fairly complicated, ash tray no idea, header tank is unusually made of brass, light fixture not known.
I'm more than willing to email you good images and measurements of anything meanwhile try in no particular order of listing; ACOC sources as listed in the club mag in particular  steve@brooklandsmotorcompany.co.uk, keith@jecks.co.uk (club spares co-ordinator, john spencer (club librarian) for a copy of the original handbook, hawkcars.co.uk (sure I saw some rear lights last time I visited), jonathanbradburn@btopenworld.com.
   Hopefully others can help further..

Let us know how you get on.

The ash tray is a BOM brand as was used on many Italian exotics of the 60's. Same as Maserati and Ferrari minus the logo. Re-Originals, www.reoriginals.com had one brand new for the longest time and they sold it, I should have bought it. You might want to give them a call! I could post a photo of it as well if you like.

For the header tank I have no idea, it's probably a custom AC piece. However your can use a Cobra 427 Ford header tank which bolts directly on the intake manifold. (It's a shortened Galaxie piece) If you add air conditioning you will have to use the Ford header tank anyway to install the compressor.

J Jones,

Thank you for the information I did as you suggested by going to ebay motors, parts and accessories, lighting, tail lights, refined my search by inserting "carello" and got lights for a Maseratti.

I tried Alfa Romeo and still came up empty handed and I am searching in the whole of ebay so any further guidance would be much appreciated.

   Cheers

Alan(Cobrajet) and Emmanueld,

Thank you Alan for the information, I am on the track of a front near side(RHS) indicator lens via a VW spares supplier.

Emmanuel I looked up BOM and got the Bureau of Meteorology any further guidance for tracking down an ashtray would help, the header tank is a problem to locate here in Australia and we may well have a go at fabricating one but not in brass.

The nose badge is interesting as there is no recess or fixing holes evident on the car, I wonder if some cars were produced without this badge ??

I believe that we can fabricate the boss for the light in the door.

   Cheers

tailight lenses for Frua: ebay item numbers     120282344782
                                                                                      110269784563
tailight assembly:  ebay item number                 140022821852
this offering is from GEROS on Cyprus, and is pretty pricy. It's been on offer for months

Alfa Romeo Guilia TI tailights, manufactured by Carello in 1963 and 1964 (and possibly more applications) - not terribly difficult to find once you know what to look for. The internet makes it much easier, though I've run across these parts in meets and "Auto jumbles"

Good luck. Look forward to photos of your resurrected Frua

Went to Goodwood Festival of Speed yesterday, as Emanuel says the same ashtray is fitted to all the contemporary Ferraris and Maseratis. Given the excellent (if expensive) parts supply i'd suggest going down the Ferrari supply route.

Amusingly the first one I saw was attached to a 250swb - I took a photo to post with the line 'all you have to do is buy this car -then break it for parts!'......then I saw the same item on 3 of the italian exotica in the Bonhams sale, all have small manufacturers logos unlike the more restrained AC.

Thanks for the help so far, I am down to a badge for the nose an ashtray for a non smoker and a header tank.

The exhaust system will be 2 to 2 1/2 inch dia with maybe a Flowmaster Muffler all in stainless, a question if it is in stainless would it be neccessary to Jet Hot coat it.

J.Jones I may well chase the complete light assemblies in Malta as the two references to the lens are for the same lens i.e. the one on the RHS looking at the back of the car.

Emmanuel am I mistaken or did you offer to make an ashtray ??

   Cheers

Peter - The tailight assembly offered by Geros is missing a gasket on one side. If you just need the lenses, and you have some time to wait, they do turn up on Ebay occasionally. I have found them in various ways, as finding them depends on how the seller has listed them. I search for "carello", or "Alfa Romeo" and then refine the search to 'lighting". I have also searched all of Ebay for tail lights, tailight, taillight and get different results every time. The same process applies to other things - the ashtray for example.
I would buy one of the RH lenses, and hope a left side turns up later.

Peter - I just had a look for ashtrays on ebay. There is a Ferrari 250 ashtray (item number 110269375239 ) listed - if you got it, you could take it to a jeweler to remove the logo. then list the logo on ebay, and keep the ashtray. Voila! depending on the condition of the logo, you might even make some money (have the jeweler make it into a pin)

Peter - OK, last addendum. It looks like the ferrari crossed flag logo is attached by pins. You could replace it with an AC logo (there was a display advertisement in ACtion for a jeweler in England who has AC items), thereby plugging the holes in which the pins were inserted. The English company could also make a cast of the AC logo for the front of your car (if that is something you're missing), and defray the cost by finding others who need the same thing.
I pretty sure that Ferrari fans are into jewelry, so the logo on the ashtray has to have some value as an original item.

OK - I lied. One last post. There are Ford Galaxy header tanks everywhere on ebay. They are correct, though not the same as the sharp-edged square tanks (which I suspect were made-up by AC). Look for "Ford", parts and accessories or engine components. Or "Ford 428", or "Ford FE", or "Ford Galaxie", or "Ford Galaxy", or "Ford big block". The thing to look for is which side of the engine the tank is mounted, and where the inlet and outlets are placed. If you want to install Air Conditioning, you'd need to place the header tank differently anyway.
