Solex carb spindle re-bushing
« on: January 28, 2019, 10:35:13 »
Hi all, does anyone out there have any recommendations for a company that has the experience, parts and equipment to to re-bush the butterfly spindles for Bristol Solex carbs?
All info most welcome.

Glenn

I had my  three  Solex  Carburetter's fully Serviced by :
Carburetter Exchange Ltd

Tel  Dave on  01525 371369
They are based in Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire,

email address.  sales@carburetterexchange.co.uk

Good News they can refurb  or rebush your butterfly spindles...........  Bad News   they are so busy they have a 12 week lead time Order book indicates
they are either Bloody good or have little competition.

Seriously they did agreat job for me and BEX333, In 2001 and  some 60,000 plus miles ago , Carbs still look New , Well almost and  have given good service.

Refurb of a Solex 32PBi is about £125  + vat.

Thanks Keith, I'll give them a ring to see if they can sneak a re-bushing in on a shorter timescale as I only want the spindle/butterfly block bushes done, not a full rebuild.

ANY OTHER RECOMMENDATIONS WOULD BE MOST WELCOME

RJE, many thanks for the recommendation for using Gower & Lee regarding the re-bushing of the carbs. I rang them and they only do 'Refurbishments' and made it perfectly clear that they were not interested in a simple re-bushing job for me. When I asked them if they might recommend anyone who might take on such work, the answer was a one word reply - "no"

The perils of recommendation; sorry to have wasted your time. Hope you get sorted out.

Robin, Burlen, for some reason, don't do Solex .They were my first port of call. They recommended Classic Fuel Systems who have my parts at the moment but can't complete the job due to serious illness of the chap who does them, hence this post to find an alternative.

The only other suggestion is to talk to InRacing in Nottingham, they may even do that work themselves as they are specialists in Bristol engines!

Has anyone on here ever used Bob's services? Since I am in continental Europe I have considered having him rebush a set of worn spare throttle housings I would like to have ready whenever I will need them.

Also, even if most owners may not use their car on a daily basis perhaps it would be interesting to hear if some people have used successfully spindle bearings made in a material less prone to wear than bronze.

Robin, there's a coincidence! I tried Will Nuthall at IN Racing yesterday and all is now underway with a quick turnaround promised.
Thanks to all responders
