clutch release bearing
« on: April 22, 2018, 20:14:57 »
Can anyone help me clarify the correct Borg and Beck clutch release bearing number?  A manual I have indicates the bearing number is 46892.  The bearing I removed from BEX1002 has a different number, 0216-ENG-40031.   I can't find ANY reference number for the 0216 unit.  46892 seems to have been used by several different manufacturers including MG in the MGA.  Is either of the numbers correct? If the correct release bearing is the 0216 unit, is there a source for a replacement bearing?

Will have a word tomorrow with Tony Byford, during this months gearbox rebuild and overdrive unit in BEX333 we installed  anew AP racing Clutch
plate CP5352/1 ,  MGB 8.5"  Diaphragm Clutch cover  and Borg & Beck  Carbon thrust release bearing.
Are you running standard  Ace Bristol clutch  assembly?  or modified unit as many of us in UK specially if  Ace used competitively. ?

BEX1002 is using the standard AC clutch assembly.  It is a ten spline clutch which I think was also used in the MGA.  The current  release bearing is Borg Beck.  I don't know if that bearing was/is used on the MG or not.  I also don't know if the bearing #46892, if used on an Ace, was used on the AC engine instead of the Bristol.

Thanks for your help!

Spoke to Tony Byford this morning , ( Bristol & early BMW engine and Gearbox specialist. )

He assures me that he and many other Bristol engine builders in the UK use:-

The Borg & Beck Carbon Thrust release part number 3301 which is used on the MGBGT 1800.  it will fit both  Standard Bristol configuration and modified
.e.g.  MGBGT   8.5" Cover plate  &  AP  CP5352/1 Centre Plate.

Borg & Beck 3301 For MGBGT 1800 should be easy to locate, compared to asking for a AC Ace Bristol unit... ;)

Good Luck

Keith.
