AC ACE ENGINE
« on: October 19, 2017, 13:34:04 »
Hi,
I'm thinking of having my AC engine re-built.
I've talked to Rod Briggs, who was very nice and helpful, but can't take on any more work at present. Can anyone recommend a good AC engine specialist. I'd like to have the work done before spring next year. Thanks, Peter Bennett.

You could consider Brian Taylor who is in Shropshire, he will unfortunately though have a similar work load to Rod Briggs, there is no reason why you cannot employ a competent engine builder local to you, there is nothing magic about the Weller Engine, it just takes care & attention to certain elements of the re-build.
There is good information available to you on the various web sites & the Forum & if you need specific advice that can be supplied, the traditional issues of liner sealing have been dealt with also if you have a UMB type engine then the line boring of the main bearing journals must be set up to maintain the pitch centres for the crankshaft to cross shaft to ensure you maintain the correct meshing of the gears!

These people

Have recently rebuilt AC engines. If you need a new block, have it checked for porosity.

Mine was built by Tim Walker Restorations although the water jacket conversion was sorted out by Rod Briggs after a rather poor first attempt by another company, now defunct.

Thanks to those who have contacted me regarding my AC engine re-build.
Following a visit to Brian Taylor in Craven Arms, Shropshire, I have asked him to do the job.
He seems a very knowledgeable and capable engineer, nice chap too!!
