CRS hand brake cable replacement
« on: June 15, 2016, 22:39:22 »
I have decided to replace my handbrake cable  on my CRS.

I have part serviced the calipers with a seal kit from Graham  Goode racing as they are RS escort/sierra cosworth calipers on the rear--this part went well.

The handbrake cable is very similar to the Ford offering for the RS Escort /Sierra but appears to be longer  in length(3120mm) vs 2465mm on the CRS and the Ford adjusters appear plastic not metal( CRS),though the cable ends that hook over the caliper handbrake levers are the same spade like loops with holes.
They are both  a one piece item balanced over a crescent moon hoop that attaches to the hand brake lever via a pin.

Has anyone replaced a CRS hand brake cable with an off the shelf item (FORD)? I did do a thread search on this site and found little except for the Super blower that suggested it was bespoke.

Graham, I got my cable off Gerry Hawkridge at Hawk cars. The cable for these cars I understand is a modified Ford item. Regards. Gary

Gary,
I tried Gerry first but he is on Honeymoon for at least a week.
I tried the other likely suppliers as well (Brooklands & Redline ) but none in stock and would be made to order/suggested to use speedy cables. Thank you ACtion for all the phone numbers to hand.

I had already contacted Cable Tec who make cables  and after discussion of  the current design with a couple of people decided that for Scotland at least we need either grease nipples or lined cables as we still get salt in April & October. The current design on may car also does not have rubber boots. The Anti roll bars also can damage the cables if it gets trapped, and my car is lowered so cables close to the terra firma.

In short will have two replacement's here in a few days copied from

   my original.

I had a set (2 complete cab;es) made by Cable Tec from pattern but with grease nipples placed mid way on each cable sheath.

Turn around was fast at 1 week from receipt.

   Now fitted and MOT completed.
