brake master aceca
« on: August 09, 2006, 17:29:50 »
Can anyone tell me where I can buy a new or rebuilt brake master and piston assembly for my 59 Aceca. I believe it is a Girling unit and it has the reservoir mounted on top of the piston assembly.

   Thanks.

Gus

A few names in England & USA come to mind....

In UK, Brian Eacott  tel / fax 00 44 208 397 8472.... used to run spares/ stores at AC Factory, now supplies AC spares to ACOC members.

John Arnold races a AC Ace and has dual circuit brake master cylinder, Since Sally Shepherds brake pipe failure at the end of the Mulsanne Straight during LeMans Classic last month, many of us are looking at dual system for safety..  Fits directly into old position, some additional pipe work and possibility of fitting brake bias into rear system ..  suggest you contact John Arnold 0044 1675 4030216  .....(0044 1675 4030218 Fax)

In the USA..   try Ron Leonard, Durango. CO 81301
   (303) 259 0108.

   Jim Feldman.      OR 97225........001 503 643 3225

   Ron Mulacek.      IL 60525........001708 354 44 35

Jerry Lynch        CO 80303....email  hslynch@comcast.net Sorry no tel number.

Hopefully one of the above can help you.

Thanks so much. The dual system sounds great, especially since I'm contemplating to prep the car fo vintage racing anyway.

Hi Gus

I will be speaking to John Arnold at The Bentley Drivers meeting at Silverstone on Saturday 19th August,  Tim Pearce, Bertrand Leseur, and a few more of us are investigating best solution, minimum time, work and cost, with most efficiency  yet retaining period aesthetics.

Will keep you informed of progress, in the meantime could you please confirm your email address.

I found a MG unit by lockheed that looks identical, except the reservoir is mounted facing rearward, where as the one I pulled off my car faces forward. It can simply be reversed. It is a dual cirquit set up.

Hi Gus

Had email from John Arnold confirming Dual brake system employed on his racing Ace.

He is using a Tandem Brake Master Cylinder ref Girling part number 74660152 060.  available from JEM  44.1455 611 543.. (jem-vintage.co.uk

Alternatively,  contact Nigel Winchester, who not only keeps these in stock but can supply fitting kit complete with remote reserviors and pipework, ( ACtion Vol 32 number 5 (Sept 06 )  page 39.

Sorry its taken so long to confirm, not that I'm lazy..... simply been  too busy with work.

Have asked John Arnold to prepare Article for future issue of ACtion. Hopefully with pics and reference to materials used and datum point to start setting up brake bias front to rear. Will vary pending use and spec of your Ace.

Yes, One of those cold 5 minute jobs during the winter months prior to the Start of a new Season. BRRrrrrrr....

As always, thanks Keith for your assistance. Nice picture of BEX333 in the ACtion. I'm looking forward to what John Arnold wants to share with me on the rebuild of his car to make it competative. I'm about to tear into mine this coming month and hopefully will have most of the work done by next spring.
