   Great set of photos and a great project...
   
   BUT
   
   Looking at the B&W pictures and comparing to the Period colour picture(red Ace #249) is it the same Ace..[?]....There are no visable signs in the
   B&W pictures of  BEX1149 ever being fitted with a roll hoop.  However additional holes to secure rear view mirror are in the same position on scuttle and a racing
   exhaust system do indicate  this Ace may have had some competitive ACtivity, but is the colour photo of BEX1149 ..[?]
   
   I have the same photo in my pictorial reference library as unidentified, with reference  60WGGP 249 noting photo possibly taken at Watkins Glen Grand Prix in 1960..[?]
   
   Can any one on the otherside of the pond throw light on the racing history of BEX1149 or comfirm  whether the Red Ace pictured  is BEX1149...Any additional information appreciated to update the ACOC Ace Bristol Register...[]
   
   What ever,  Great to see another Ace Bristol re-appear on our radar, Lets hope the restoration does not take away all it's patinated history and we see it again in
   12 months time seeking a new Owner who hopefully uses it to the full..[]

There is a copy of the 1960 Watkins Glen Grand Prix program on the Racing Sports Cars web page which lists entry 249 as being the AC Bristol of Bill Harwell of Shaker Heights Ohio. I can find various other entries for Bill Harwell in an AC Bristol on the east coast through 1963 but no identifying number. He does not seem to appear prior to 1960 so I would assume he acquired the Ace in 1960. Is he listed as an original purchaser in the factory records?

   Thank you for confirming that the Red Ace # 249 is BEX1149..[]. Raced by W ( Bill) Harwell 1960/1961.
   Can anyone post any more Period race pictures of BEX1149..[?].

Amazing! Good research, and it looks like all the stories ring true. Regarding its condition, it is nice to know all I have to do to mine to sell for top dollar, is apply a bit of distressing!

Wow, £143K and then add another £80K for restoration minimum. So looking at £220K minimum. I hope someone owns, but it would seem a mad price.

Still a lot of money and it will need a lot of work, the challenge will be based on my experience is getting the body work done

John, I've seen this happen a couple of times before, where someone asks a silly price and gets it, and subsequently the market re-sets its datum. It happened with the Ferrari Daytona Spyder, 30 years ago when the prices doubled overnight, and 5 or 6 years ago where the AC428 Fruas jumped from £27k to £90k after a couple of auction results, and they haven't slipped back. I agree that the restoration of BEX1149 will bite heavily into the margin, but even at a total cost of £220k I think the owner will have a perfect restoration, to their own specification at about the same price as an Ace of similar condition. Andy, yep, good point. I hope it goes to a good home. I must admit the world is mad, my 1966 mini cooper S cost me £200 when bought (the guy could not give it away) now look. Makes the Ac Ace Brooklands look a great buy, but even they have jumped in the last month.

   Reliably informed by phone on Saturday that BEX1149 is up for sale by a Dealer in New York area, with a asking price of $235K.(using same photos as Auction.)
   
   Not a bad return in a couple of weeks..[:0]... Not even sure if
   the dealer even had time to collect the car before putting it back on the market...[]....[V]..
