Triumph 2-litre engine to AC gearbox?
« on: December 09, 2013, 11:22:29 »
Rebuilding the original AC 2-litre engine out of my Buckland is certainly not within my budget at the moment and so I am considering fitting it with a Triumph 2-litre engine instead.

One option is to buy an engine and gearbox and just install the whole thing, making new mounts as needed, chopping the prop and introducing a hydraulic clutch system and clutch pedal mounts etc as needed.

However, I also wondered if it were possible to somehow mate the AC gearbox with the Triumph engine, therefore using the original clutch system and gearbox mounts?

Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of this or should I abandon my thoughts straight away!

   Many thanks

   Martin

Martin, we have another Buckland with a triumph engine fitted. I think it uses the triumph gearbox - can check and take some photos if you like. Kind Regards  David

Hi Martin

Did you ever fit the Triumph engine to the Buckland, as I have just become the owner of a triumph 6 with 0verdrive and will be considering this for a future fit if and when my AC lump gives up.

   Cheers  Gary

Rod Briggs ran his PVT Special with a Triumph engine while he was rebuilding an AC unit a few years ago - he might be worth contacting.  His contact details are on the 'Small Ads' page.

I have a detailed three page account of how to install a Triumph engine and g/box into the 2 Litre, from many years ago.
If you give me your e mail address i can forward them on to you

Hi  Musicman Thanks for that.  it is on the forum members profile bit but will send it anyway.

Have just sent it and wonder are you the author of the 2 litre book.  If so dam good read.  I used your adjustable timing wheel mod.  I also noted that  my pistons had cutouts in the top of them maybe the previous owner had also tightened the valve timing down as per your book in an early time.

   Cheers  Gary

Leo, I also am a fan of the book, thanks for putting in the effort!  I picked mine up a few years ago at Essen, not knowing at the time I would later become the owner of a 2-litre.  The book was helpful on a number of points when I was looking at the car.
