Here is a link to an ad on Hemmings for a 1993 AC Mk. IV for sale at Streetside Classic Cars in Atlanta.  Looks very nice.  Low miles.  Flat dash.  Price is $139,995 U.S.D.  No affiliation...just as information.

   If not a lightweight, then why would the factory chassis plate have an "AKL" designation?  Did the factory ever outfit non lightweight cars with AKL chassis plates?  Could the plate be a forgery of some sort in order to mis-represent the car for possible financial gain?

At least the car seems to have no Lightweight feature except for the straight dash and the missing cabin leather edging. This supports the observation made in another thread of this forum, if I remember correctly, that there were MkIVs with an 'AKL' chassis number prefix that left the factory without any significant distinctive mark versus the standard MkIVs. - 'Lightweights'?

Strange, but not impossible, but vin plate does not indicate and is an AKL not the sum of the parts/ additions and deletions. These chassis plates are pretty easy to obtain.

Well. Here`s a thing. The ACOC MkIV registry lists this chassis number as AK 1472. No 'L' !!!!
   So when did it appear on the chassis plate???? Has someone been naughty?

Maybe the original plate fell off and when the new one was made there was aslip with an"L"?

Perhaps it was a mistake from the factory?  I have some correspondence in my file from the original owner of my car to Ms. Paula Hopkins at the AC factory about the VIN number on the metal plate on my car (engine compartment) that differed from the VIN number on the cowling plate and manufacturer's certificate.  Ends up there were two incorrect VIN numbers on my car.  The factory issued a completely new set of plates (engine VIN plate and cowling vin plate) for installation on my car with another (different) VIN number that was finally consistent so the owner could register the car with the California Dept. of Motor Vehicles!  I just provided all of this information to Allan to clear up information he had in his Registry.  So....funny things can happen!

All of the above are of course possible. I don`t see a lot 'Lightweight' about it though, like the triple wiper setup etc, especially when comparing to AK1500 on eBay UK.
   We`ve discussed this car, AKL 1472, in a few threads earlier this year.
   Hopefully someone with a bit more 'hands-on' knowledge may be able to add something here?
