I've not done the conversion yet (next winter's project). I have the gearbox, flywheel, clutch etc, but still gathering remaining parts together. I would prefer hydraulic clutch operation, but to keep things a little simplier I'm going with cable operation initially with a view to changing to hydraulic later if need be. The no. plate came courtesy of my girlfriend. She got it from the club magazine a few years ago as a birthday present. Glad you like it.

To change the gear box is always a big job. I think you will need a new trans support, a new bellhousing (if it is not include on your new tranny), a shorter shaftline with a new yoke (to fit on your 6 speed gear box) and (not sur) a new starter to comply with your new 157 teeth flywheel.

Must confess, the conversion is looking to be more of a challenge than originally anticipated and think you might be right – next winter could be long!! Apart from the points you mention, my chief concern is finding the right people to sort the exhaust system once the gearbox is fitted. The second pair of cats will have to go (no room for them) and I want a new 2-1/2 inch system made incorporating the hi-flow cats I got from the States in place of the other two. To date I’ve not found anyone in this area (Kent) able to mandrel bend 2-1/2 stainless and worry I’ll hit a problem with emissions next MoT [

!], despite Random Technology’s assurances two of their cats will produce lower emissions than the original four.

   An other way is to buy a stainless steel U bent, to cut it as long as necessary and to find a good welder to fix the problem. I have made my own exhaust headers like that.

   You can find also in this shop some Lambda probe plugs to weld on your exhaust pipe to control your CO² emission [

Thanks for the link, nanard289. Fortunately, I have a mate who’s a brilliant welder and guess as a last resort I could get an assortment of bends from the States. But it seems ludicrous living in a so called industrial nation such as the UK it should be necessary to ship from the States simple things like pipe bends. Talking to a mate in the States a while ago about just this subject, he was amazed we had so few facilities for fabricating exhaust systems. He reckoned in the States every other exhaust shop had the equipment. To prove the point, a few weeks later he had his local exhaust centre make a new system for his Mustang powered Volvo – time taken 3 hrs - cost less than $400!!

Nanard289, I am wondering? are your the fellow who bought my PS Engineering 289 FIA wheels on E-Bay, couple of years ago? I shipped them to France somewhere in the "Vallee de Chevreuse" (and your car has "78" license plates) I don't recall exactly where, and they were going to be mounted on a Cobra Daytona!

Max, about engines and car workshops, UK is not the States, but keep in mind that France in not UK!!! You are lucky enough to live in a nice country where it is possible to find good AC specialists as well AC Owner's Club! [

Hi Emmanuel, AC world is not so big! That right, 2 years ago I had bought a nice 289 FIA wheel set on e-Bay at fair price. I use this set on my Daytona replica for street use (in France, racing tyres are not legal on the street) but I have to paint in white the hub (not yet done) [
