Tour Auto 2013-Cobra Identities?
« on: May 21, 2013, 13:10:47 »
I would be grateful for the identities (chassis numbers/VINs) of cars 217 (Dominique Guenat, Switzerland) and 240 (Claude Demole/Philippe Senger, Switzerland):

If you want to know the identities of any of the other Tour Auto Cobras please let me know.

   Thanks

Robin,

I think a lot of the Tour Auto cars have been knocked up from all those "left over chassis" that Carroll Shelby "found" in a field some years ago ! They certainly look like new cars ![;)][;)][;)]

Cobra no.240 is well suited to grass cutting!

   ...And apparently, it`s CSX2547!

Brian,

Thanks for the lead - I now know where to follow up.

It could well be 2029, but which one? The 2006 clone or the 1962 original?

If it's a clone or replica, it makes the 2013 Tour Auto ten Cobra entry five 'originals' (in the sense of originally made in the 60s) and five replicas/clones.

Have to agree with you, Brian, but it`s funny that it has had several different registration numbers recently!

Judging by my photo collection which may or may not be 100% accurate, the replica CSX2029 has FIA-style cut-back doors and a small-ish grille opening.

It's the rear fenders that make me think this might be the real CSX2029.  IIRC, the car took a nasty shunt at last year's Tour Auto that would've required a "nose job."  And possibly another registration plate.

Wait a second...I'm starting to reconsider as I just found this image which seems to include CSX2029
and the car in question...

UPDATE: The grey+black Cobra is owned/driven by Dominique Guenat of Switzerland.

CSX2029 is repaired and taking part in the 2013 Tour Auto.

Sundude,

The ACOC register has car 215 as CSX 2111, owned by Pierre-Alain France. The 2029 replica didn't originally have cut-back doors, but may well do now.

Although there is no suggestion that this occurred in 2013, last year's event was widely observed as having one entrant using two identically dressed cobras.

Now there is a surprise Ludovic Caron did the same thing a few years ago, only his cars were not identical cars.

I was agreeing based upon Aaron`s identification of 2029 51 months ago, HERE:, taken at Sebring in 2009.

SO. Is this the 'original' 2029 with FiA arches & cutback doors?

Gents,

I think you may have it. The replica/clone (built in 2006 using a Kirkham body and chassis) has rather unusual rear flares, no cutback doors, a different oil-cooler scoop and deeper side vents.

The original, made without side vents, had standard ones installed in the eighties. I’m researching the more recent ownership history of both 2029s.

   Thanks for all your help.
