FIA Appendix K ROPS Regulations
« on: November 15, 2012, 13:19:44 »
2012 Appendix K mandates that period F (Thames Ditton) Cobras be fitted with six-point Roll Over Protection Systems when competing under FIA jurisdiction. Following forceful representations from the ACOC and other clubs and extensive FIA Historic Motor Sport Commission Technical Working Group(HMSCTWG) debate, revised proposals have now been approved by the HMSCTWG, the HMSC and the World Motor Sport Council.

Appendix K will be revised as of 1st January 2013 to allow Period F GTs, GTSs and GTPs to race with period roll bars, such as the forward single-braced roll bar that all period-compliant Cobras have. John Symes, MSA’s Technical Director, has been of great assistance in pushing the changes forward, and the result reaffirms the true values of historic motorsport.

If anyone would like yesterday’s MSA confirmation or copies of the March and April ACOC FIA submissions, please email me.

Well done Robin. Perhaps there are a few other anomalies that warrant attention to get Historic Racing more Historic - not least making Cobras run on nonsensical tyre sizes and as for the extensive redevelopment of the E Types - words fail me.....

Barrie,

It's only competitors (or Clubs working on their behalf) that can cause regulations to be changed. If a significant number press for change and the historical facts are on their side, it will happen.
