Mk IV Heater Core
« on: August 01, 2012, 23:32:28 »
As a continuation of my saga on getting my AK 1216 road ready, my mechanic advised that my heater core was bypassed a while back and he has taken it out of the car.  Unfortunately, it is shot and not repairable.  He knows the part number but has been unable to locate a new core stateside, and has contacted Hawk Cars and AC Heritage in England per my direction to source this part and is awaiting word from them due to the time difference.  I am hoping that the forum can advise if Hawk and ACH are the proper source for the Mk IV heater core or if there are any other sources you know of.  Also, if a member has by chance, a spare heater core that is in good shape lying about that they wish to sell, please let me know as I would be interested!  Thanks to all.

My mechanic is scrambling to complete the work prior to the Monterey Historic races in a couple of weeks. I have my ticket and corral pass!  The gentleman organizing the corral at the races advised yesterday that there will be 30 original AC/Shelby Cobras in the corral and a total of 175 cars there (Shelby Mustangs, continuation and replica Cobras).  I willtake plenty of pictures and plan to post some after the event!

If your guy has no luck with Gerry or Steve, you could try Alan Faulkner-Stevens, who along with being the ACOC`s MkIV registrar runs Dragon Wheels Restorations, but I would have thought that it was sourced from a contemporary vehicle(admittedly, probably a UK spec vehicle) & shouldn`t be too hard to find. Post the part number & maybe someone can help!
Looking forward to seeing your Monty photos!

Nik, good suggestion re..Alan   I will also ask for the part number as well and post it here. Gus, I will mostly tough it out but it is nice to have a heater especially on the Northern California coast in summer!  As Mark Twain said....the coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco!  The tourists are already freezing waiting for the cable cars!  Look forward to meeting you at dinner.

The mechanic just advised that the part is off of a 1987 Euro Ford Escort 1.4 litre diesel, Part # 83AG18B539AA.  Hawk Cars is looking for one.  No other options as of yet.  They did not bring the European Ford Escort over to the States and we had our own (far inferior) version for the U.S. market, thus, no matching heater cores available in the USA.  Trying to put the car back to original specification, heater and all, thus wanting to get a new core installed (dash is currently partially apart).

Robert, I tried to email you through the forum, but it was undelivered. Please contact me via  my forum contact details with your email address. I located the part & have spoken with Gerry Hawkridge, so hopefully you can place an order immediately.
   Cheers, Nik.

Hi Nik.  I received your emails regarding the part and responded to those but wanted to thank you again on the forum for your terrific help to me on this. It is greatly appreciated.  I looked at the part and it seems to be exactly what I am after.  I forwarded the details to my mechanic just so he can visually check it and check the dimensions against the unit he removed from my car.  This looks to solve my problem though and it is a huge help to me.  Thank you again Nik!!

It is from 15  up to 30 Euros depending on the quality and we  can buy it online directly.

Granada II, III and Orion show the same part#

My mechanic compared my heater core to the EBay core and they match in terms of dimensions and look of the unit. I tried to purchase the EBay unit but ends up the U.K. seller does not ship to the USA and the EBay site would not allow me to contact the seller to see if they would make an exception. So,my mechanic is supposed to contact Gerry Hawkridge to see if he can buy the EBay unit and then ship direct to them.  Have not gotten further word from my mechanic so hoping this is in the works.
