Color Sample- Black Pearl?
« on: April 12, 2008, 03:38:54 »
Does anyone have a color sample of what AC called 'Black Pearl'? From various readings, it seems it was some shade of dark metallic grey, but I'd love something more definitive, since my Ace was originally this color.

Peter,

see pics of my black pearl Ace in various light attached, I hope they will work. My car was painted blackpearl from the beginning but of course I cannot guarantee it is exactly as it was when new.

Thanks Stephan, nice car - same color combination as mine originally was (Black Pearl/Red). Looks like a shade of very very dark gunmetal gray,is that how you would descibe it? Always hard to tell from pictures, but at least I now have some idea what it's like. What's your car #? Mine is AEX127.

Stephan,
Great looking car and I love picture 100_0208. It belongs in a book and on a wall.

John Lewis has just Sold his Aceca which was Black Pearl.  It is not 100% black, but a very dark grey almost black (  metalic ).  It is a sod to photograph as the pigments in the paint make it absord the colours nearby, hence it has a blue hint in certain light, can look black in poor light yet have green hint if parked on grass.

Suggest you email Steve Gray of Brooklands motor company or a AC specialist who might be able to confirm general colour make up.

Alternatively try some of the Old paint manufacturers e.g valantines based in Uxbridge, Middlesex England, they should have record on Micro fish,  Or  Glasurit based in Oxfordshire.

Steves email is :  steve at brooklandsmotorcompany dot co dot uk

Great colour really suits the Ace, Aceca and early Cobra.

Trouble is it's impossible to match from a photograph, you really nead a decent  paint sample or better still the % breakdown of each colour pigment to make up the correct  finished colour.  Again with Metalic Paint the colour will vary pending:- primer, gun pressure , temperature and distance from gun to panel, not forgetting the thinners which can also effect the paint colour.

Good luck,  However, If you dont have any success, give me a call on 00 44 (0) 7889 298 226 and I will try to divert into Glasurit and request colour Formula.

Peter,

my car is AE 1140. Yes, the colour is a very dark metallic grey with a shade of green in the sunlight. It is originally a Rolls Royce colour, I can give you the recipe no if you want me to.

Stephan - that would be great! You can email me directly at bowmanpj@hotmail.com. Thanks again  to all who replied, and Stephan, great pictures. Maybe I can get my Ace over to Germany sometime and see some of those same sites!

Hello Stephan,

This is an old thread but if still possible, could you also send me the recipe no. for Black Pearl, which is what our Aceca Bristol should be. It was repainted red at some point, but still retains the original red (faded) leather.

Also, might you have the recipe no. for Metallic Blue? That is the colour of our Ace. Never been repainted, still the original colour but so faded as to appear almost grey. Still has the blue leather interior, but also very faded.

   Regards, Paul
