ACOC National Day in Thames Ditton
« on: August 21, 2011, 22:15:40 »
Well done to the organisers for pulling off a great National Day event.  Lots of cars from most (if not all) of the AC model range were in attendance, with the rain staying away and a burst of late day sunshine adding to the relaxed atmosphere.

I took a short video (see youtube link below) capturing most of the cars parked around the perimeter to give some scale to the event (I'm sorry it's a bit shaky!).  I'm sure that other attendees will begin posting their photos in due course.

What a brilliant weekend! Saturday saw the unique Dinner inside the Ferry Works, and Sunday witnessed a fabulous display of around 75 AC cars on the green at Thames Ditton. John Spencer produced a brilliantly organised event which ran like clockwork, supported by his lovely wife Sue. The marshalls and judges organised the day's gathering and concours d'elegance without a hitch. I propose a huge vote of thanks to all those involved for making it so enjoyable for us all.

Big thanks to John and Sue, Andy, Ted and Murray and all the other volunteers who made the event such a success, and to our hosts NCMT at the Ferry Works and Elmbridge Council for the use of Giggs Hill Green.  ACs from Box Van to CRS, warm and dry weather and a wonderful atmosphere - a superb weekend all round.

Looks like it was a great day, shaky video notwithstanding (although minimal) that was nice to see some live action! Just like your daughter running away from the fire breathing monster, Bruce, on your youtube videos!! Funny! It's nice to see some faces/people with the stories and cars from time to time...

Monday morning after National Day and there are already 52 hits on the video. Note the number of relatively young people seen walking the grounds. They, and the internet linking owners world wide, are the future for this Club. Just as finally getting membership online, isn't it time to also offer ACtion as either an emailed .pdf or a password protected site?  Both offer savings in printing, postage, & handling, as well as gaining a fully searchable archival document.

Well done to John Spencer and all the team involved with the Weekend. Thank you for a very special evening at Ferry Works and a great day at Giggs Hill Green. I think it was the best National Day I’ve been to so far.

Just to make you feel 'even worse' for not attending the fantastic National event yesterday, there's now more video uploaded to YouTube.

Is there any footage taken at the Ferry Works? The cars, the premises, speeches, plaque unveiling etc?

I have now uploaded, to Flickr also, some photos from Ferry Works on Sunday, and the gathering of period AC’s that had been built there (and, some vintage models at Gigg’s Hill Green).

Also, some comparison shots of the Ferry Works in 1922 and today (note the same metal upright pillars), and some photos of special guests; the direct relatives of S F Edge and the Hon Victor Bruce.

As residents of Thames Ditton we were delighted to learn earlier this year that the AC Owners' Club would be bringing their cars to Giggs Hill Green to celebrate the 100th anniversary.

We came along last Sunday afternoon expecting to spend half an hour or so and in fact we stayed for nearly 3 hours looking at the beautiful cars and learning about them from some very friendly owners.

So we would just like to thank everyone who attended for the friendliness extended to us locals who knew so little about your cars.

We took a few snaps which you can see here:
