Mystery door handle identification
« on: May 13, 2011, 18:05:22 »
Dear all, please see attached image (I hope I have shown the image!)

It is an image of a door card on a restored mark 4. The car was exhibited at the Classic Car Show at the NEC in, I think, 2009.

Can anyone identify the door opening pull handle?? Which car is it from??

   Many thanks

   Gary

My description above may have caused a little confusion- sorry!. I am trying to identify the door opening handle (on the right on the picture) - not the pull handle.

   Thanks

I have now seen a number of mark 1V Autocraft cars with this particular door opening handle, so I don't think its unique only to this car. Anyone know where it was sourced from by AC Cars.

No idea! Do you know which Ford model and I'll be able to search for it on the internet. Many thanks.

Given the time period, try Fiesta, Escort, Sierra or Granada, UK models.

Have to say that I remember the Fords as having moulded style handles by then, but my sister had a GT6 and they had this style of handle. So I don't guarantee that this is it, but it looks very similar.

Ah, I thought we are talking about the other handle. For the other handle (the door opener) you have to remove it because on the backside a number is stamped in (I think so). You have to move it forward or backward, I think it was backward. It has clips on it's back.

Thanks Rev for your input, but I was referring to the door opener handle.

I have done some research this last day or two and think I have identified it. I think it is off a Ford Capri Mk2 (1974-1978). As the handle is chromed, I also think it was off the Ghia model.

   Can anyone confirm this?

   Many thanks

This looks very similar if not identical, but as well as chrome handle, it also has a chrome surround.

Here's another link. The interesting thing about this image is that the featured car is a mark 3 Ford Capri 280 'Brooklands' which is an interesting title. It appears to have the same door opener but it isn't chromed.

It also looks the same as the interior door handle fitted to the Mk1 Granada (early 70's car). In fact I think that's the one!

If you want to know it really now go Peter's route. Remove the handle trim and the handle and have a look on the backside for the OEM partnumber/toolingnumber visible on the parts, or wait a few weeks untill i receive AK 1106 and my  complete interior and exterior rework starts.

If you know the partnumber go to a Ford dealer parts desk and ask for he part to buy by number  or find a classic Ford parts specialist and show up the sample.
Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler!

I will get some Capri MK2 sample parts from a Capri fan for reference in 2 weeks from today. The Capri inide release handle and bezel looks like the same as in the MK IV, i will let you know the details when I have the parts avillable.

Hi ,

Stand to be corrected, but it also looks like the midget/sprite door handle... I used to have such on my ex  '68 TVR vixen S2.
