Help required!! Do you have any Superblower images
« on: December 05, 2006, 22:01:09 »
Dear all,
You may have established from a few threads I have contributed to so far, that I am in the process of completing AC Superblower ACSB 7020. This car was partly built at Brooklands in 2001. I am in the process of obtaining the original parts to complete the build and have along the way been compiling a spreadsheet detailing each individual part. The vast majority of the parts I have received have come from John Owen in Malta. I have details of AC part numbers and other manufacturers part numbers (if not produced by AC Cars)and I have taken a digital image of every simgle nut bolt washer etc etc. If I can be of help to any owner of Mark 4's, CRS's or Superblowers, please let me know, it would be a pleasure to help (if I can). Also if you personally have any details of the parts which have gone into the build of these cars, drop me a line and I will add that part to the list. I'm hoping to build a comprehensive parts catalogue for the benefit of all AC Owners. And lastly- if any of you have any images of the AC Superblower, specifically interior and/or engine bay images, these would be of enormous benefit to me as I need to ensure the finished detail is correct on my car. Especially engine bay mounted components.
   Kindest regards
   Gary

Hi Gary I have sent you some piccies of my MKIV that has been fitted with a supercharger identical to the superblowers. At the moment I am having a programmable ECU and an intercooler fitted as the compression ratio of my engine is way higher than the standard 302.

Hi Jim,
thanks once again for the images you have sent through. May I ask which programmable ECU you're fitting? I am deliberating at the moment which way to go. I have heard good things about the Ford Motorsport Extreme Performance Engine Control(EPEC) system, also the Anderson PMS computer is well reviewed. With regards to your compression ratio, my understanding is that due to the Supercharger you should be aiming at late 7:1 early 8's. By having a low CR, it will help to prevent detonation (I think). As part of my engine build, I have gone for forged -15cc dished pistons. With a large cc set of heads I hope to achieve a low CR.
   Regards

The garage I am using to sort out the engine after a so called 'AC specialist' made a complete horlicks of the car and installation recommends the Emerald programmable ECU: http://www.emeraldm3d.com/em_ab_em.html
You are right about the compression ratio. I ordered a new crate engine from the US that has a 10:1 CR and had the supercharger fitted as an afterthought. Hence the need for an intercooler. Wish I hadn't bothered with the supercharger now as it has caused nothing but problems. Then that might have more to do with incompetence of the 'AC specialist'. However, when it goes it should be interesting.

Hi AK1440,
I'm no expert in this area but have done a fair bit of research recently and before I start building my engine up. I have read if a Supercharger is being fitted, consideration should be given to larger than stock injectors and Mass air flow metre. I believe its better to have slightly bigger injectors to prevent the mixture from becoming too lean and again increasing engine combustion chamber temps and causing pre ignition/ detonation. I have gone for the 30lb injectors and a Pro M MAF metre. The down side to this is that the stock ECU will probably need to be chipped or a 'piggy back'programmable ECU fitting. Thats where I'm up to now. Don't know which to go for!! Any advice?

Gary and all,
Wheels, the 16's are Compomotive made in England, PN's are same F or R, HB1670 80. The designators are front 7Jx16x40mm pos. Rears are 8Jx16x53mm pos. Brake calipers, drivers (US side)front are ATE's  The inside of caliper has 38R stamped in it, the outside has 73R stamped in it.The rear (again US drivers side)calipers I cannot find a mfr, but Rick and I think they are ATE's as well off a Puegot 505 wagon of the early 80's vintage internal parking brake. I found a part number as follows 2320958. I will send you 3 pictures at your email address as I don't have a clue how to attach them in here. I must admit the 2 & 1/2 hours this took was enjoyable..just the car, me, a beer & the cat. Too cold for "she who must be obeyed" to be in car port.

Hi Gary

I think you and I spoke re your car last year. Anyway you may recall I own a Superblower, the 'Spirit of Brooklands No. 2'. Chassis
   ACSB 7013
During the build I had a photographic record record made by the factory? Would this be of any help?
   Regards

Hi Ian,

I certainly do remember you and the kind help and advice you gave me. I hope you and yours are in good health. I would have kept in touch but my home computer was sent away with a fault to be repaired and came back with a new hard drive. Consequently I lost all my valuable contacts!!
My car has progressed considerably since I last made contact with you, in that I now have most of the parts that I need to complete the build. In the early part of next year it will be going off to be painted and then the assemby can begin in earnest. I have tried to obtain the brake packs from John Owen in Malta, but for one reason or another they don't use AP Racing anymore for their brake systems. I am therefore trying to find out through other Superblower/CRS/Mark 4 owners, the part numbers for these various components. Can you help? Also I am after images of the Superblower, particularly of the Superblower interior and engine bay mounted components to ensure that when I complete the build the parts are located correctly. It sounds like your photographic record could be invaluable to me and I would greatly appreciate access to it if possible. As mentioned above I have compiled a comprehensive list of all the parts I have obtained so far, that may be of value to you or any other owner of these cars. If I can help with a parts query please let me know.
   Kindest regards
   Gary

Gary.

Will take some more photos of engine compartment/brakes/interior etc and e mail them to you.

Interior of mine has Mk3 style dash - which would be much easier to reproduce and in my view is much more attractive than the "Proper" Superblower one.
