I have a Moto-Lita wheel on my 1985 MKIV. It's not here at the house, but if I get a chance tomorrow, I'll measure the diameter and let you know.  I do know it is the model that has the rivets through the wood rim. I do not know, however, what hub you will need to purchase to mount the wheel on your column. I heard or read somewhere that the steering columns in our cars were from Rovers. I'll look at the hub on my car and see if I can find any serial numbers.

Dear Linklaw,

The mounting hub is the question. I think it is a nine bolt but I do not know if i need an adaptor

   Thanks,

I just measured the wheel on my car and it is 13" or 33 cm in diameter.  You are correct that there are nine bolts holding the wheel to the hub. I looked but could not locate a serial number on the exterior of the hub. I will try to locate the information regarding the manufacturer of the steering column. With that info, ordering a hub should be relatively simple.

AK. If you have the diameter of the shaft & number of splines & length of splines, the wheel manufacturer should be able to work back from that.
I know that Mountney did that with one I purchased around 25 years ago!

If you talk to Mota Lita I am sure they will sort you out.  Mine is a later MkIV, the boss for which came from a Ford RS Escort.  I spoke to the nice people at Mota Lita, sent them a picture of the hub and they made me up a very nice, original Mk 2 pattern wheel to fit.

Hi AK

I asked Moto Lita (about 2 years ago) if they could fit a wood rim wheel to my CRS and they asked the same questions you have.  Once it had become clear that they were talking to a mechanical idiot they just said:
"Bring it in and we'll sort it out.  If we can't do it no-one can."

They were very friendly, helpful (and, frankly, tolerant!).  I havn't had the wheel done because I thought I'd finish modifying the engine and suspension first, that was two years ago and I'm still at it!

I have a wood rim Mota Lita wheel from my 1983 MKIV I no longer require. I bought it a few months ago (so its as new) and have now decided to have it converted to a 60's wheel. I also have an original leather mota lita wheel if anyone wants it. Contact me on rev@fsbdial.co.uk if its of any interest.
