BRAKE FLUID 1960 ACECA

Guys Im down to the brakes, put 4-- miles on the car in the last week!
But the brakes area little soft.
Ive got drums and been redone. Needs a good flush and bleed.
DOT 4?
MINERAL FLUID?
Im not sure, cant find it anywhere.....

Hi Joey.
DOT4 would be fine but personally I would use a silicone fluid,  if you Google automec silicone brake fluid you can see all the spec. It's a DOT 5 fluid which is better anyway but more importantly is less prone to absorbing moisture and does not damage paintwork like standard brake fluid. It's a bit more expensive but we'll worth it.

Sorry guys that was 400 miles.......in 2 weeks!
I was just making sure it was not the old mineral fluid used for  Bentley in Rolls.
Having fun....will try to post some pictures.

would be a simple DOT4 oil be ok? any issue with seals and rubber pipes?

I would go for Castrol DOT4, that seems the heir of the Girling Crimson.

i dont know what is on the car now, but the color is definitely not crimson.

Hi Eddie,  DOT 4 will be perfectly adequate and as mentioned  previously you could use silicone DOT5 fluid, but bear in mind the possible problems as noted by PJ Bowman. 
I've always used silicone fluid on cars I've restored but these all have new brake pipes, hoses, seals etc so very little chance of contamination.
If there is any chance of old fluid in your braking system then standard DOT 4 is the way to go.
