Looking for info on SA Greyhound
« on: July 24, 2023, 11:51:58 »
I've just purchased a 1961 Greyhound from South Africa and would like to know if any members can give me any more information on the car than I already have (which is quite limited so far).

I believe from some searching that the car was owned by Eric Glasby of Bulawayo in the 60s and more recently by Jack Clough in Durban.  She is currently fitted with a Zephyr 2.6 but I don't know if that is the original or whether she was built with the Bristol engine originally.

Engine number is stated as 113002 and VIN as BEF2560 and she was first registered 30 December 1961.

The car is currently registered in South Africa and will be back in the UK by the end of August I hope.

I have attached a picture.

That's really useful!  Thanks so much.  Hopefully others can fill in more blanks soon.

If you haven't joined the ACOC it's worth doing so - our Greyhound registrar is very knowledgeable.  Congratulations on your purchase and good luck for the repatriation of the car.

She's arrived and going through our workshop now.  Working on re-registration to original UK registration 604CGT (only 3 months in UK from new and then shipped to Rhodesia).  If anyone has any pictures or advice on registration I would be grateful.

Yes, she's at Grayson Pace (GP59) Ltd, www.gp59.com.  Amazingly clean workshop and some great projects on the go.
