Hello! GTJOEY BUYS A AC ACECA ! Need help....
« on: December 17, 2021, 12:41:54 »
I'm having fun!
From my Ford GT's to E type Jags, but its time for a little more fun.
I just picked up a 1960 Aceca
Its been sitting with the last inspection from 1981!
Its MINT underneath.....
First up after getting started, Im dropping the tank and want to drive this as a survivor not a restogone mad!
The tank should be   ALUMINIUM, NOT PAINTED BLACK?
Its going to be tanked next week.
First of many questions.....So fuel system first.
Thanks in advance.

Well old friend Kevin Kay gave a ring saying the tank is steel and should be semi gloss / satin black
I can’t wait to dig in this car tomorrow!😀

Well the fun has begun
I pumped out the tank from the fuel pump.
Cleaned out the fuel bowl and tomorrow the tank will comedown....Sadly all my pictures are too big to post?
Any way to change that?
I have 2 drain plugs .is that normal on this car?
Thanks in advance

Hi,
software "TinyPic" was a popular tip on this forum but it's not available anymore. Other options are available but not many that are "off-line" unfortunately (I'm allergic to cloud solutions!)

Suggest you search for "free image converter" or you can use PDFCreator at a push.
Merry Xmas /Paho

Correction: You can still find "TinyPic" software to download, even though its not available from the origonal authors.

There may be a setting on your camera or phone to set the file size to be smaller, or you can resize them in another programme, such as the basic photo editor in Microsoft Office or a free download such as Irfanview: https://www.irfanview.com/

Okay hopefully this format works  :)
I dropped the tank out of the car......Its been sitting since 1981 with 17,000 miles on the clock!
The 4 bolts up front connecting through the frame came out like brand new.
The 4 studs holding the strap out back, 3 came off by hand and a 4 th was snapped off, Id say 45 years ago!
Im not restoring this to show, Im restoring and preserving for driving and history.
It been re painted red from black but , underneath this car is a pure un touched virgin.
I cannot mess around with safety as I drive all my cars.
The tank is shot , Im cleaning up the original sending unit as they are much better than the repros.
It works fine.
Im going to try Andrew Wiltshire and his Alloy tank? They look spot on and done for life.
I could paint it black but the workmanship looks wonderful!
Any thoughts?
Any thoughts on the Quick silver exhaust ,? Is there a factory replacement?
Thanks in advance.

I’m using as many original parts as possible just for posterity
This is the old fashion carb cleaner / Gunk
I think it’s still available
It degrees the bolts with out striping the plating
These are the tank bracket bolts and nuts

Are you guys allowed to respond?
Or is there is a VAT tax for typing letters🤣
Here is the tank but Andy will put a welded 45 degree nipple to eliminate more possible leaks
Also no right side fitting option
Another leak issue
I love it in aluminum but I think it’s still going to get powder coated satin black!
What say you?

Hi there,
Nice to see another Aceca on this forum.
I used to buy fuel tanks from Andy Wiltshire as he could make them more cheaply than I could!
I was very happy with the quality & Andy was always happy to make any modifications needed.
Unfortunately, Brexit has made this unviable for me now, so I'm back to making them myself.

I've had a couple of exhaust systems from Quicksilver. They are quite expensive & some of the welding
was not the best cosmetically but overall they fitted well enough. The tail pipes are a little long & may need
trimming to suit your car. Quicksilver only make these to order, which can take some weeks depending on
their workload.

I paint the tanks either matt or slightly satin black.

Good luck with your recommissioning,
Luke.

Happy Holidays everyone!
After soaking all the fasteners with wd40
The entire exhaust slid right out in two sections!
Will try and tackle the rear bushings
Anyone have a clue as to dropping the rear or each side at a time?

Any pictures or suggestions?

Looks to be a xk120 fuse box.
Modern glass fuses and all the rest, I have a schematic coming. So any suggestions please email...

Would anyone have a lead on the binacle surround?
Mine was removed and the dash was made to look like an ACE.
Thanks in advance.
