Another 2 litre pops up on Ebay
« on: October 30, 2021, 18:52:36 »
Here's a link to another 2 litre saloon on Ebay. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/353744987029?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649

Looks like a fair car but some work to do, paint a bit shabby, screen rubber surrounds need doing. Rear bumper will need doing, a few dings.

I've got no idea about the engine but if it is a barn find expect a bit of bother, gaskets etc.

Still would be a nice starter car for a younger member/ new member into classic AC's. We need to get more of these on the road.

Is this know to the club.

Gary

Check my other post re the 2 litre suspicious.

A car is only original once, but, you can modify it as many times as you like.

I have contacted the seller and he assures me that his is genuine. He has sent engine photos as well.

If you are buying make sure you view and check engine/chassis numbers.

I have alerted Ebay to the other one and that dies look very suspicious. Having a link to a third party Email.

Hi Gary,

BCW 113, Chassis No EL1796 engine No UMB1797W has been known to the club since 1987. (Although originally registered as BCW 118!)

The BCW 113 that I have is black with white interior when auctioned in March 2013? It had recently been restored and resprayed, see pictures.

Hi  Tom,

well that is most definitely the one on Ebay. Something very fishy.

However BCW113 is shown on DVLA as being silver, possibly a reg swap?

Who knows, but any buyer be very wary.

If you examine the details of both cars, they have identical number-plate fonts, same faded reflectors (different positions), similar rear view mirror, same style battery, top hose and open oil breathers. Side and tail lamps are mounted in exactly the same positions (they were very random on ACs!).

Yet the interior of the grey one looks less restored (different colour) and the rear AC badge is different, and no wing mirrors. Very odd!

Hi Ian,

There is plenty to suggest the cars are different.

eg The horn and indicator switches. One has the 'correct' one the other has a 1930s fitting.

There is, as far as I am aware, a unique fitting on the black one, a starting handle support bolted on to the front bumper which is not present on the grey one...…………….

Gary,

I would like to see the engine pictures if possible, did the owner include a picture of the chassis plate?

That's a good point, Tom. The interiors are largely different. Potential buyers need to check the chassis number as stamped on the front cross-member.

Well done, you've found the former BCW 113 as described by Tom, now with no brass chassis plate. I once helped someone who purchased a 2 Litre that had a fake brass plate. Always best to check the number stamped on the front cross-member (right-hand side).
