Very slippery question, What is the actual difference between the original unit and the copies produced by the ACOC many moons ago?

To the untrained eye they look the same,  maybe the casting is not as good, but  then again one can polish out imperfections. Or is the material totally different?

Can you post a picture of the original alongside a copy ?

I did not know that ACOC had produced one. I would guess that any reproduction would be a machined item.
To be accurate, it would have to be done as a die casting which today would be quite expensive.
If someone has one of the ACOC produced ones, could they post a picture?

   Thanks,
   Jim

If you have a sample then it could be produced using an investment casting pattern, they do not need to be expensive & the quality of the surface finnish can be very good compared to sand casting & at least as good as die casting.
If you know of an Art Foundry they could use the existing sample coat it in wax to a thickness to compensate for shrinkage & make several castings inexpensively without the need for a pattern.

I will have a word with Tony michaels the ACOC Chairman,  Tony advertised good quality  reproduction spare wheel lock down Four eared nut many years ago in ACtion Magazine. ( I Will try to find advert in relevent back issue of ACtion)

If the club had some done then the ACOC can get another batch made and despatch to club members via  Acedes Spares.

Will keep you and Forum posted.

In the meantime, this very subject was definitely discussed in depth about 18 months ago on the club  Forum, Not sure if it was under General, Ace or Cobra section,  tend to think Ace & Cobra....

   Save you some time......

Spent 7 or 8 minutes going back through the Forum, This subject was initially brought up by AEX125 (Jay) on 9th April 2008 in the Ace / Aceca section, Then brought up again in the Cobra section by rr64 on 7th dec 2008.

Tony michaels ( the ACOC Chairman) did advertise repro copies at £7.95 plus postage.  refer to ACtion magazine  May 2001  page 34.

   suggest you contact Tony Michaels
Tonmich2002  at  yahoo dot  co dot  uk

If there is enough interest Tony Could arrange for the ACOC tp get fresh batch made up, obviously the more members interested the cheaper per unit.

Hope this helps out many Ace , Aceca  & Cobra owners alike.

Keith,
Thank you,I went back and refreshed my memory on prior posts. My recent post was really in hopes of locating an original knob for 'rr64' and others.

Keith,
Just want to report back on my reply from Tony Michaels.
As you can see, it is different than an original. He has one available. If someone else could use it, contact Tony. I did not ask a price.
He did mention that the ones he produced were not the ACOC version.

Still on the hunt for an original knob. Thanks

Thanks for posting pictures of the repro version, A "Blind Man" would like to see it, and it would serve it's purpose, As it's better than a standard nut or bodge.

However it certainly is a crude interpretation of the original.

Never really studied the one in the boot of my Ace, I Will, No I  MUST have a look  ...   Bye 4 Now

PHHEEEEWWWWW !!

Better start locking the Boot, and not leaving everything piled high at race meetings and hill climbs.

It would take a serious amount of fetling to get the repro anywhere near the same as the Original.

Surely a small batch of 12/ 20 good quality units could be turned out and sold via Acedes Spares.

Might even look into myself if the demand is there sepecially as I have the real Mckoy.

As i indicated it is not difficult to reproduce if you have a good sample.
