Looking for fuel filler cap
« on: November 18, 2020, 17:24:17 »
Hello,

Does anyone happen to have a spare fuel cap of this sort, with the teardrop lever? The closest lead I can find for a new one is the Ceandess website, but they're out of stock.

https://ceandess.online/product/flip-top-filler-cap-tear-drop-lever?v=79cba1185463

Thanks!

That would be from this batch. I expect Keith's sleep has returned to normal by now.

Thanks for the replies. I'll ask Mr. Hawkridge if he still has some of these.

I instigated a batch of  correct authentic  batch of 183  Fuel Caps of which Gerry of Hawk cars placed a order with me for 50 fuel filler caps, Please note Gerry requested his batch of 50 have a different size  Base / hose spigot to the main batch. However The fuel cap itself is 100% correct .
This two year Project ( saga ) sold out very quickly.  Ceandess had a surplus of components to build up units  to cover additional orders or replacement should one be damaged in transit.
Ceandess still make the lozenge shape fuel filler  but with a square push button and a second  version with square push button with lock.

As this project was back in 2011 / 2013 it is not surprising they are out of stock.   Many club members who ordered the  fuel filler caps  replaced original  worn pitted  ones ,  May I suggest  you advertise in ACtion and you might obtain a good quality second hand one, or by some chance as the project took 2 years  due to manufacturing and chroming  problems they may still have the new replacement  boxed unit on the shelf.   definitely worth a try.
Keith,

That's great info, Keith. Can you describe which base you chose for your batch?

I made sure my batch were authentic 100% accurate correct copy, only deviation was to fit a  replaceable rubber seal instead of riveted seal. Thinking ahead and making life easier for future custodians should the seal need replacing. .
Part number for the Ceandess "Presto" Cap assembly AC Style ( Keyhole style release button) No Base .  ..  ..  02517000CAB
Part number screw threaded base assembly       02529000ZBB
Gerry Hawkridge Base assembly  (Straight )      05387002ZAG

I believe Gerry chose  the smaller hose spigot  for Hawk Cars as he had surplus stock of connecting Hose and rubber O rings to seal against car  body.

Thanks all for the replies and helpful information.

To close the loop on this thread: The folks at Ceandess were able to gather enough spare components from their inventory at the end of last year to make a couple of caps and filler necks for me.

Great Result  !

Ceandess stood by their word over the two year production period at a great financial loss.
Great they searched their inventory and produced a couple of fuel filler caps.
I would have thought they  would have made an additional small batch to satisfy the restoration /classic car and motor cycle market, as modern cars did
away with separate  fuel filler caps many years ago.
The Restoration / Classic car & Motor Cycle market could prove lucrative and keep their work force employed.
Main thing,  You secured the correct specification fuel cap.
Take Care and Stay Safe
