Goodwood Sprint - 31 October 2020
« on: September 14, 2020, 09:44:48 »
Stop press

Goodwood Sprint

It is with great regret that we have to inform you that no spectators will allowed into the Paddock area of the circuit or any part of the infield.

Only those who are actively participating may go through the tunnel: this means Officials, Competitors and Marshalls and nobody else.

Club members and the public will able to spectate on the perimeter track all round the circuit but must not go infield at all.

Strict social distancing including masks will be the order of the day.

This means we will be complying with not only Motorsport UK's guide lines but also the latest Government ones as of 12 September.  If we break these guidelines we are in danger of losing the use of the circuit in future years.

Many thanks in anticipation of you all complying!

If you are coming to a lovely sunny wind free Goodwood would you be willing to be a club steward for the event?  You will need to sign on but it means that you can come into the paddock and I think use the nice warm and dry upstairs of the Jacky Stewart building.
The stewards' main function is to sit on any judicial proceedings but as we have never had any since the event started 40 years ago I hope you won't have to do anything!

Kind regards
Mike Smith
Clerk of the Course

We welcome John Abel as Secretary to the Meeting and thank Bruce Claasen for his hard and efficient work in the past.  Potential competitors should contact John for an entry form and ASRs at johnbel289 at gmail dot com.

There are 61 entries and unless there are last minute restrictions it is going ahead.

No spectators will be allowed through the tunnel but as Mike S noted above, you can watch from the perimeter.

Hoping for good weather!

I haven't entered this year, But take this opportunity  to  wish all those competing a safe and dry event,  It surely can't  be more wet and windy than last year, resulting in the event being cancelled.
Wishing  all the competitors and the ACOC a successful 2020 GoodWood  Sprint, and a big thank you to the organisers and Marshalls.  :). Enjoy!!
Keith

The good long range forecast didn't last and there was heavy rain by the time the practice runs were underway.  The meeting was called off at lunchtime as there was so much standing water on the track it was deemed dangerous after an incident caused some damage to the tyre wall.  All very disappointing after an excellent turn out and exemplary organisation - thanks to John, Mike and the team for their hard work.  Hopefully there will be better circumstances and weather next year!

Yes I got as far as Worthing saw the start of the rain and the winds, turned around and went home being swiftly chased and overtaken by the weather. Christ knows what it must have been like down at the track.

Shame I was looking forward to seeing some action.

A real shame that the event was called off early for the second year in a row. Every competitor had the opportunity for a practice and a timed run so the competition did at least have some results.

Track conditions were challenging but not outrageous. Two separate competitors collecting the scenery (neither of them ACOC members) seemed to force the officials into their decision.

Full results will be published in ACtion but here are the main ones:

F.T.D overall: Patrick Blakeney Edwards (Frazer Nash)
F.T.D in an AC: Murray Shepherd (Ace Bristol)
Fastest Lady: Sue Darbyshire (Morgan)

Some fantastic photos shot by Peter De RH will be accompanying the results.

Massive thanks to John Abel, Mike Smith, John Spencer, Mike Berrisford, Bruce Claassen, Bob Langley and all the competitors, officials and marshalls that helped make it happen.

Goodwood have been making some positive noises about getting us an earlier date for 2021 to decrease the chance of such extreme weather!
