Dear Robin,

Thank you. I did check with Martin and he doesn't have any "donor" DX6A
bodies at the moment.

I intend to use him if I do find a distributor, regardless of condition, at least more
or less regardless!

You wouldn't happen to have an old one in corner some where?!

Kind regards

Jonas

I do have a small number but they, as you have found are difficult to find, Martin has 23D6 which are supposed to be better i believe, have purchased a couple for  some engine builds!
Have you tried Rod Briggs?

Robin,

Thank you. Yes I have tried Rod. Maybe I should consider trying
the 23D6.

Is there anybody out there with experience fitting one to a AC engine?
I would appreciate any feedback.

Kind regards

Jonas

A good reason for using the 23D6 is that the shaft bearing support is greater than the DX6A, as you appreciate the side loading from the gear does require good shaft support! 23D6 is a better distributor for the application.

Robin,

Thanks for your input. Yes this does indeed make a lot of sense.

In actually fact, the reason for me looking for a new distributor
is that my old one, only some 5000 km after having been rebuilt,
is showing clear signs of what problems side load on the shaft can
cause!

Anybody out there having had any experience with the 23D6 that
is made by Crosswait & Gardiner?

Thank you.

Regards

Jonas

Your distributor is fully made by Crosthwaite & Gardiner & they changed the shaft & bearing design to have a ball race at the top of the shaft & a needle roller at the bottom, the Lucas design uses plain Oilite bushes, Martin Jay has looked into changing the bush to a needle roller bearing but due to the shaft diameter has not found suitable bearings.
Martin believes as the Oilite bushes are full length it gives adequate support to the shaft in this application, so does not believe a change is necessary.
One of the problems using roller & ball race bearings is lubrication which does not exist in this application as the distributor runs without any oil supply! Oilite bushes on the other hand are impregnated with oil as it is a sintered bush, I am sure Lucas did extensive wear rate life tests when they designed the distributor & found this plain bearing design works!
One would expect shaft wear over time with the oilite bush design, but clearly it works!
I suggest you contact Crosthwaite & have them repair the distributor, i doubt Martin would wish to repair it as i would expect it would fail again!

Jonas,

As an additional option you could get in touch with Bristol specialist Geoff Dowdle. His email address is : geoff.dowdle AT gmail.com

Geoff knows a thing or two about the various distributors which can be used on the Bristol engine and may be able to help.
