AC Weller Engine / Head gasket, valve timing done, All good at last!
« on: December 02, 2015, 15:34:39 »
Hi ya now it seems I have a blown head gasket, getting water into oil I think ( milky substance around oil breathers in last week or so, water loss and bubbles into rad when hot. Checked cylinder pressures and rear 2 are down to around 100/110 psi rest at 135+. Somewhat annoyed as engine only done 18000 since rebuild albeit in 1965.

So ordered head gasket and some other gaskets as needed from Rod Briggs. (Bloody hell they cost more than the engine rebuild back i the day).  got everything undone ready loosened head bolts (noted one side was tightened to around 60 psi while other side was around 45 psi all should be 40 psi, strange).

Just cant get the camshaft stud undone, anyone know if it turns in normal direction or is reverse thread????

Got to get it done as going to new years parade (hopefully)

It also appears that AC France had a club pitch there as well but not seen any pics of that around yet.

Chantlly is only a couple of hours from Calais so maybe on my list for next year when in Picardie again. Next years event is Sept 4th I believe.

Vintage, PVT & 2 Litre Forum / Dynamo rebuilt now all good eventually
« on: November 05, 2015, 19:39:01 »
Dam and blast,

Just fitted rebuilt Dynamo, excellent job by Classic and vintage dynamos, however now found out the regulator is cooked. Now to try to find a new one, prefer not to have one of those reproduced ones from India.  Might try an electronic one hidden inside original box (anyone tried one of these)?  Need to sort out soon. Anyway still hoping to make it to the sprint, just need to charge a spare battery and fit my blanking plate in place of dynamo.  Will have to see it only 60 miles from me.

Vintage, PVT & 2 Litre Forum / Just saved another one TPC 843
« on: October 16, 2015, 19:08:33 »
Hi ya got the bug, just bought another 2 litre saloon this one in some disrepair, but with lots of new bits on engine and body panels in great nick and ash frame pretty good in the main. Will put a link on to some pics of it shortly.  Reg TPC834 Chassis EL1750 U Engine MB1731w, Its not listed on the register and has been off road for a long time. It has got is old style V% so will need to get it re registered with DVLA (that will joy I am sure). Now got to get it collected from Aberystwyth. I think as the interior is shot this may not be a project more in line with being turned into a race style alloy panelled and etc etc But I will see.

I note from the 2 Litre register the engine was originally listed as originally being in a Buckland EL1730.

What does the W suffix mean on the engine number?

How do I get hold of the 2 litre register man? So it can be added to his list.

Vintage, PVT & 2 Litre Forum / Owners/workshop manual?
« on: October 14, 2015, 12:21:29 »
Does anyone know if such a thing exists.  I do have the original red general instructions books which is very useful. However, it does not give things like torque settings etc.

Also would like to know what the compression should be on a 2 litre 1949 engine fitted with 7.5 pistons.

Vintage, PVT & 2 Litre Forum / Old Girl back from her hols.
« on: September 13, 2015, 15:33:56 »
Hi Just a quick note and some pics, we have just come back from a very nice trip 400 mile to and around the Somme area, and stayed at a lovey cottage which I can thoroughly recommend to anyone going to the Baie de Somme for a break at Saint Valery sur Somme, at lovely town with a great deal of history. There is also a lovely old steam train from St Val to Crotoy and Crayeux. Any way the 'Old Girl' performed faultlessly and was much admired by all who saw her. Even the German chap with a fake snake that did not know AC made other cars than the Cobra!!!!! e is now wiser. Not sure if the link works or not but here goes.  Gary
