I assume that must be youth text speak, really must catch up with this modern stuff.

I am aware that DVLA are in fact looking at this, handy being in close contact with law enforcement persons.

I wish I knew what IMHO meant?

Your are right nikbj the DVLA do not need further reasons to get tough on genuine Historic owners, through the deeds of the devious ones.

If you looks at his website http://aceac.weebly.com you will see he spent approx £5000 on what he calls a decrepit car. I know of one that is in a very poor state in fact rotting away that he could have picked for a third of that. Why ruin what appears to be a fairly decent car. Oh I know pursuit of money at someones expense.

God I am really a grumpy ol man.

Hi Jam2 you are right he will have to butcher or as he suggests on his website use a third party one, there by losing all but the engine gearbox, axles(maybe) from the 2 litre whilst maintaining its historical!!! status. I have built many hotrods in the past and allways met the 8 out of 12 point scheme. and kept original body, chassis etc what he is doing by trying to get the v5c issued as an ACE is wrong. And yes it will still attract a good price I'm sure just look at the price of plastic Cobras etc.

I already have chassis number orig engine number and the current engine number he was daft enough to put the on his website and youtube!  Yes it is Irish origin.

Or call me a grumpy old man or even Shirley at weekends!

However it is with great regret that I am sure I am going to upset someone!! but do I care really?

So here goes, After some thought about what is happening here I must make my point. I think it is a great shame that someone (you know who you are) is going to destroy a 2 litre saloon to make a 'Mickey Mouse ACE', This person is going to use the chassis after some major mods to replicate an Ace chassis or if you follow his website, even going to use a third party chassis. He is going to use the 2 litres identification plates and part of the chassis with the numbers on to keep Historic status. I am given to believ by this person that he is even trying to hoodwink the DVLA into issuing a V5c as an AC ACE, as his car shows no model type on the reg docs and has filled in the V62 thingy to do this. Apart fro the obvious fact that that is fraud pure and simple. The mods on the AC 2 litre chassis or use of a third party one would exceed the 12 point system that DVLA allocates to special etc. By just mods to the Chassis he would be over the allocated points.

I believe the club should not allow or condone such action and or postings re this project.

This is why there is such resentment from some parties re no MOT/Tax etc.

This vehicle if built should be allocated a Q plate and that will make the clearly what it will be a 'Kit car'.

Just because the poor old 2 litre is not a much desired classic as yet ie worth many 10's of thousands. It should not be destroyed just because this person is in pursuit of big bucks from an ACE.

I really hope the DVLA insist on an inspection of this vehicle, when completed, and possibly withhold/rescind the V5c or issue a Q plate.

If he wants to do something rebuild the 2 litre or at worst convert it to a drophead.

This coming year is the 70th anniversary of the 2 litre, we should keep as many going as possible not pull them apart just to make a big profit and con some poor soul in the future.

This is my opinion, and happy to discuss this blatant dfestruction of a nice car and a Fraud.

   Cheers  gripe over.

Cheers  Keith

Yep all cleaned up, hovered her out as well, surprising how much dust/grit gets under them mats.

Just had a run down to Hastings and back 40 miles, all good. Been to pickup some paint mixed to match the body colour as I am going to change the colour of the bottom half of the doors to match the rest of the main body, they have done a great job of mixing it and luckily there is only one point at the front of the doors to the top near the bonnet where any difference would should so all good there.

What I have noticed is that it must be an earlier selector block as now no longer have to heave the levet up to get reverse just push against a slightly stiffer spring, but must be careful not to select wrong gear as may need more paint[:D].

And its a navy blue suit and a red hat.

« on: August 03, 2016, 18:07:00 »
Hi So went down garage and had a rummage in my big box of spares and found a spare gear leaver and selector block.

I thought that before I take out box for the spare, maybe a good idea to have a looksee in the top, managed to get the lever off and the selector block with it (eventually) as being stuck in first meant that the lever was tight up to the shelf and bottom of dash, managed to wiggle lever round once the securing bolts removed and squeeze it past the dash (scraped knuckles and bashed myself in the head pulling it). The actual thingy the selector forks fit moved back into neutral very easily so hopefully not the box itself (touch wood, cross fingers, rub a pixie(not sure if that is legal)).

Anyway had a look at both the spare all nicely wrapped up in greased paper and the current one it seems that the current one was moving the selector to far forward compared to the spare, the spare was also easier to slip back and fore, maybe it was just worn out. Gave the spare a quick lube, very smooth movement, cut a new gasket, stick it back on, 3  securing bolts on the selector block and gave it a try, blimey all good, much smoother movement, easier to select reverse, all good. The old one must have been worse than I realised, sometimes you just don't notice the deterioration over time. So bolt it all up, tunnel and carpets back in. Test drive (as they say in East Enders  'Sorted') much smoother selecting gears.

Upward and onward my daughter will be taken to her wedding in the 'Ol Girl after all(she would looked bloody silly hitch hiking there).

Cheers all those who came up with ideas.

Cheers for that looks like a long read and deep understanding. I do have a spare box as well just in case I cant get anywhere. It has been suggested to try to push the backwards whilst in first gear (obviously not with engine running as that could be a bit dangerous and tiresome) as this may relieve the pressure on the lever.  Looks Like I'll be playing with gearbox tomorrow. Especially as I am supposed to do my daughters wedding on Sat.  Hey ho.

   Cheers  Gary

C'est Magnifique

All went well in France over 600 miles and did not miss a beat. Definitely running better. Did not need the breakdown cover.

Some of the hills in northern France tested her a bit but all good.

   Cheers  G
