Hi all

For anyone looking for a brake light switch for the centre bore 3/4 inch brake master cylinder Girling 64067535 then you will need a 3/8th 27tpi (NOT 24TPI). SMB423 for Lucar terminals or SMB400 for screw terminals These are the new numbers that supersede the original Lucas ref 31082.

Hope that may be useful to someone.

Vintage, PVT & 2 Litre Forum / Help required with kingpins and bushes
« on: November 14, 2020, 15:51:24 »
I have a set of kingpins and bushes that I recently acquired that I am assured are for the 2 litre saloon, however they are different from my last set of kingpins and bushed.

As can be seen from the pic of the kit all the bushed are the top hat style and come with a bronze washer and a felt washer. The kingpins are identical to those on the car.

The last set I had had 1 top hat bush and one straight tube type as current fitted to my car see pic. This stub axle also has a steel washer type thing (probably has a technical term) see pic

My questions are

A: is this the right kit
B: Can I fit this
C: If so does the top  bush fit as per the bottom one i.e. top hat upside down position. does the felt washer and bronze washer then fit in place of the steel thingy (previously referred to)
D: or could I re use the steel thingy(that item again) and dispense with the bronze and felt washer

I have seen another kit like this on the interweb but that was for the 1933-38  AC however there was a further washer with that kit.

And finally (at last, you may say) since my little man who reamed my last bushes (cheers Frank) has passed away RIP. will any machine shop be able to ream them or does anyone have a recommendation.

Cheers in anticipation.

Stay safe and well all.

Well it seems that the protracted process of trying to purchase a 'garage find' has finally ended. After a lot of toing and froing with the friend of the lady selling it and his truly valiant efforts and getting me info and pictures, checking it over etc. The sale was then taken over by the a member of the family who wanted to try and sell the VRN on separately (originally on keeping it on the grounds of sentimentality to the lady) but later as it has a value to Liverpool Fans (not sure why, but then I do not follow football). Unfortunately the state of the car is very poor and the cost involved in getting passed an MOT so that they can transfer the VRN is prohibitive, so now they want to jack up the price of the car accordingly due to the perceived value of the VRN.

So I have now withdrawn form the purchase.

The car is still available if you are a Liverpool fan and want an AC with a suitable? VRN for you.

I will happily pass your info along if you want me to.

General Forum / Body shop required any references
« on: October 17, 2020, 17:15:16 »
Hi today the Ol' Girl has suffered a little damage. She has been reversed into which has creased the front drivers side wing, bent the bumper and a couple of small dents.

Has anyone used a good body shop who knows alloy bodies. I do have a man who could respray the wing as he done the job on the wings last year. But I need to get some estimates for the insurance company. So any ideas, I live in Kent near the Sussex border, so I don't want to have to go to far north etc.  I do have a spare wing in my Garage but as you know AC's are hand built and not sure if it would fit.

Cheers  G.

Hi I have a full set of front brake shoes for single leading shoes with new riveted linings. I no longer require these and therefore are for sale. I would like around £50. I will post pics a bit later. Linings are about £70 on their own.

Cheers

General Forum / Car transport company any ideas
« on: October 05, 2020, 19:43:09 »
Hi I need a car transport company to collect a car from Edinburgh and bring it to Kent.  The ones I have tried want a running car or at lest rolling one. The AC I am considering does not run and maybe a bit tight on the rolling front.

Has anyone used a suitable company I can try.

Hi I went to Brands on Sat for the Qualifying and first races of the historics. Great cars in the Equipe and Gentlemans Qualifying and  race, Super historic F1's inc 6 wheeled Tyrrel.  I have taken a few pics of the Cobras-Daytonas, the fastest qualifying was a Daytona Cobra recreation (is that not really a glorified kitcar ;D) any way it went like stink.

Here are some pics.

Hi I am about to send of 2 sets of the above wheel cylinders for the 1949 on AC 2 Litre with twin leading shoes, 7'8" bore.

These are going to be re-furbed  bored sleeved in stainless etc new seals blah blah.

Anyway I only need one set so if anyone needs a set let me know and I will get both sets done. I am send both sets to make sure I get one good set (just in case).

They are going to let me know if they can do both sets.

The cost would be approx £260 poss a little more for the set.

I also have the back plates and mounting bolts 2 sets.

If anyone wants a set then let me know by end of week, otherwise I will get the spare set returned to me.

These are rare and like finding rocking horse s***.

Cheers

HI can anyone tell me the difference in the Brake master cylinders used on the 2 litre saloon. I know the different bore sizes but I am more interested in the fitting side of things. I believe they are all the 3 hole fitting.

Are they interchangeable ie early 5/8th for later larger bore?

I am upgrading the brakes to later version.

Hi guys

Now fitted the servo, and it certainly assists in the braking department, yes I know it does not add stopping power, but it does mean not having to stand on brake pedal in emergency or to avoid errant couriers!

And yes I know there is a small kink in copper pipe, new length on order.

Here are a couple of pics.

Vintage, PVT & 2 Litre Forum / 2500 lock down miles
« on: July 06, 2020, 19:08:57 »
Just hit 2500 miles of lock down motoring inn the Ol Girl, all around the local Kent Weald villages delivering meds and food parcels. Only had to use the Chevy a few times when it rained  heavy'ish.

Been pretty quiet in the main and still not busy.

Hears hoping some car meets start up soon.

Hi I have a box of various brake shoes but am trying to identify what ones are for the twin  leading shoe drums for the 1949 onward car.

To that end has anyone got a picture of this setup, either just the shoes or the shoes in situ on the back plate, so that I may be able to identify a set from my box.

Cheers Guys in advance.
