Vintage, PVT & 2 Litre Forum / Been away and just catching up.
« on: June 17, 2021, 09:28:19 »
I have just returned from a couple of weeks away in the Ol' Girl, we completed just over 1500 miles in all around Suffolk and Lincolnshire.

Lovely weather and the Ol' Girl performed well, got a bit warm inside her when the heat rose, but her new air vents I fabricated for the footwells worked well blowing cool air inside once on the move (well as cool as was possible when it was hot outside) but at least some fresh air circulation.

The twin leading shoes brake  conversion along with the servo really make a hell of a difference, much better stopping and lighter braking effort needed (no more both feet on the pedal and praying).

I can seen clearly now at night with the LED conversion, makes the Ol' Girl at lot more night-time friendly (I can throw the night vision goggles away now).

The twin weber downdraft conversion on the Triumph engine worked extremely well, performance much enhanced as a MGB owner found out after tailgating me for a mile or two, I waved bye bye to him as he struggled to keep up (one just has to occasionally).

Had to grease up the Ol' Girls nipples while away, but I was extremely fortunate that the owner of one of the cottages we stayed at was a car lover and let me use his garage (well more like a ruddy barn). He had a lovely Jag Mk2 and a Sunbeam Rapier S2. He used to have a Triumph TR6 and told me of a supplier that made a Stainless manifold for him that performed well (might look him up)

Yep I know most of you are not interested in the Triumph engine in the Ol' Girl but I like it and the reliability and performance.

I see that the Sprint is in September with the National the same weekend, I hope to make one or both, but again we return from another break away in the Rutland area.

Well stay safe and  and keep driving.

I went last year and saw some fantastic racing , GP's, Gentleman racers, saloons etc etc. Some great Cobra's and Daytona's.

Plenty of space and there will be a classic car show on the sunday.

Help What is it called and where can I find a pair, mine are somewhat buggered and would like some new ones, but not sure what you would call them?

It is the part that is rivetted to the bonnet and slides into the centre chrome strip thereby making a hinge.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Cheers to all you knowledgeable chaps.

Bed the new brakes in.

Then off on the road again.

General Forum / AC chokes cables new old stock.
« on: February 05, 2021, 16:02:40 »
Hi not sure if these would be any use to any members, but I've just ordered one.

These are new old stock choke cables with a nice AC logo on the knob, not quite as per the AC car logo but a nice touch all the same.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GENUINE-AC-CHOKE-CABLE-IVORY-KNOB-HOTROD-VINTAGE-TRIKE-CLASSIC-CAR-NEW-OLD-STOCK/133179923036?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649

Have a look, maybe someone knows if they are proper AC choke cables and if so maybe the club may be interested in them.

Vintage, PVT & 2 Litre Forum / A last better brakes and bits
« on: January 13, 2021, 10:14:55 »
HI

Finally, finished install of twin leading shoe brake  setup on the Ol' Girl. Had a bit of  delay after finding one of the wheel cylinders that I had refurbed and lined etc by Past Parts, had a crack in the casing near the bleed/pipe connections and was leaking and taking in air. No wonder I could not get the buggers bled. Thankfully Powertrack had just the right item to replace it, the last one they had, Phew ;D.

Cannot get her out on the road as yet, as still awaiting the return of my front wings from the sprayer. Still on the area in front of my garages she stops rather well, especially with the servo.

I will still be working on a disc brake conversion  (Found some Chevy discs that almost fit right PCD but need centre bore opening machining out a bit) once I have sorted out a few other bits on the Ol' Girl while she is off road. ie new gearbox tunnel, new carpets and drivers seat splits and cushion repaired, using C A Upton in St Leonards a very old family run business.

Hope all going well with you all in these trying times.

Cheers  Gary
