Yep, this is the car Rosner Msp in the US had for sale for over a year. I enquired extensively with a view to bringing it into the UK. However, I couldn't establish a bullet proof date of manufacture. Our own ACOC factory records seem to show manufactured Jan 1986, but vehicle records seem to show 1985.
I'm guessing, even knowing AC, this is little more than a clerical error. However, as it was coming into the UK, it was more vital than usual, as 'classic' cars over 30 years old are treated to only 5% duty and VAT, as opposed to 30% on a 29 year old car.

In the end I'm glad I waited for a UK rhd car. Those US additions (bumper rubbers and wing lamps) would have been expensive to remove.

i didn't do the fan, but had to remove the grille assembly to change the compressor for the air horns. It's all quite obvious once you start undoing things.. However, removing the chrome splitter can scratch the paint so be ready to touch in. It's also a good opportunity to straighten and respray the grill mesh with satin black aerosol.
Mine was self tappers not rivets which was easier. The only place it was riveted was wher the mesh went into the splitter. Instead of re riveting which is a bit hit and miss, I use small cable ties to 'sew' the mesh into the splitter. Sounds like a bodge but it's better and invisible,
Don't be wary - it's simple fiddly and time consuming., like everything on a Mk IV !

Yep, he only had 4 sets left when I bought mine in Feb. red car in pic. Be careful with the Trigos. They are not quite the same fit or look. I'm also doing the reto emgined transplant next although mine is a Mk IV. You won't need cats then. Note for MOT emissions are tested to date of engine manufacture, so be sure to get a remanuf engine with the right date block. I

I researched this extensively and even made full size cardboard mock ups to test clearance before ordering some new Avon ZZs recently. The optimal sizes are (fronts) 225/65/R15 (rears) 275/55/R15. Despite the folklore, the 65s don't foul my arches, look great and are virtually the same diameter as the rears. Vitally,  they give more front ground clearance compared to the smaller diameter 60 profile that is also available. You can also get 295/50/15s for the rears, but my findings showed these too marginal. My car is a '93 Mk IV and not a CRS admittedly.

I agree totally and it's not so easy nowadays to legally back register newly built cars. But before we get too disparaging, let's remember that many of us are quite happy to make our Mk IV's look like earlier versions.
Regarding your actual post, the main issue is about percieved authenticity. Unfortunately this is not always tangible. The truth is that there may be no physical difference between a 1995 built 1964 type car and a 1964 car, rebuilt with 100% all new parts in 1995. The latter of course has the all important chassis plate, but with extensive restoration the value of this diminishes until the car obtains its next patina and the car is happily mistaken for original.

Why not supply adverts of similarly priced cars, such as this

Maybe the increased grip of modern tyres like the Avon ZZ, increases lateral loads on suspension parts.

Just noticed the rear lights on this '66 are very much like the Mk IV set up. To achieve same retro look on a later car, you can replace the amber rear lens with a red Lucas 692 (as existing stop tail). If you spray the inside of the (red) lens with green glass dye, it will miraculously flash amber. It's a trick used on modern cars that don't display amber rear indicators lenses any more.

It looks fantastic in black with the 15s. The definitive Cobra colour for some reason. In the last few weeks, I have become custodian of AK 1500 which is red with black interior. I want to change it to black like yours and in time I will, I feel completely sure.
On another matter, how on earth do we check our ball joints, mes amis?

AK 1271 was built with 16" wheels and would probably carried an F or G registration prefix. This car has the special order 15" wheels. Also the instrument bezels are black not chrome.  My car is AK 1500  ('93) and bezels are chrome, but has the same 3 wiper set up, which was originally matt black. I guess it's one of the unlisted specifications.

Hi C9OBY

Thanks for the reply and kind welcome. I already know the car is here to stay.

Clearly there seems to be no downside with the 15s apart from cost on top of an already significant outlay!

Interestingly, motor-wise you're the second respondent(other was a PM) who has said don't rush in so fast...you might like the civilised EFI better than you think. Also are you sure 225bhp isn't enough? Truth is I don't know and both my other cars, a 911 and a Works type Austin Healey 3000, have more than this. I guess initially, most of us expect a Cobra to have explosive acceleration, tinged with a threat of uncontrollable road holding. In any case, clearly most of the extra power from the carb engine comes from extra fuel and on an 1800 mile road rally, the difference between say 18 and 11 mpg is significant cost and range wise. Would the std engine destroy my enjoyment of the event? Probably not so I will indeed persevere with what's already in there and see how it goes. In any case probably better to explore the cars handling with less, not too much grunt on tap.
Luckily the car already has ARB's front a back. I can also see the ride height is somehow adjustable. I presume I'll have to alter it for the 15's and the Avons. I presume 225/60/15 and 275/55/15 CR6 is the correct sizes? Also does anyone know if the Trigo's 7.5 and 9.5's, come with correct backspacing for a Mk IV and did everyone have to bend their steering arms?

162
I don't think I'd trust the rear end on that....

163
Anyone know what width the original 15" wheels were and did they have different F/R offsets?

164
Car auctions only reflect the value of a particular car amongst those people present, on that particular day. Also, it's quite possible that many prospective MK IV owners would never buy from auction, in any case. Therefore this result can't be taken as a barometer of real-life value or demand.

Okay for use in Europe, but If you intend importing to the UK you will pay 30% duty and VAT. That will make it almost £80k OTR. You can buy an original RHD for that. Also, at this price level on E Bay, why would anyone say 'not perfect' and not explain the defects?
   Looks lovely though!
