Recent ACs / AC Mk11 Classic - available March 2014

Hi Emmanuel and Rob, sounds as if you both are going down the IVA route. I admire your determination, I made a decision not to go down that route as I didn't think I could afford the time or the patience, the IVA process here is thorough as it includes inspections during the building of the vehicle in addition to a an extended road worthiness inspection.

Emmanual I am suprised you have to do additional checks as you have an EC CoC. I thought it was incumbant on all members of the European free trade area to accept EC conformity certificates. In Sweden if its a new vehicle and it has a EC conformance certificate there are no tests done on a new vehicle. Only checks on the authenticity of the vehicle and document is done. surely thats the whole purpose of a conformance document.

Rob if its any consolation by the end of the process you´ll end up a vehicle that is better technically than any with just type approval.  I wish you both good luck!/Paho

..it would seem that New Zealand and Switzerland have a system for an individual to obtain type approval of a (new) assembled vehicle, or are the procedures described in this and other threads in addition to the presentation of a CoC?
I don´t believe its possible to take in a new car into an EC country without a CoC (e.g. EC Small Series Type Approval); this is the case for Sweden. I´m pretty sure TÜV are supporting the national and EC homogulation regulations in the same way that VCA does in UK.

Here, without a CoC you´d have to take the car in in component form (i.e. as a kit), build it yourself and go thro the Swedish equivalent of an IVA approval. This was the path I was considering, but our summer-house building project and the discovery of a Brookland Ace caused a change of direction. /Paho

Ace 'Brooklands' Forum / Weight
« on: February 05, 2014, 20:00:45 »
Mine states the same, that´s the gross weight of the car i.e. the maximum operating weight of the car which is the total of the vehicle's chassis, body, engine, engine fluids, fuel, accessories, driver, passengers and luggage weights.

I plan to do a thorough inspection after Easter, car is hibernating in a nice warm Swedish barn at the moment, should be able to see if there is any obvious reason for the weight as soon as its up on the lift. /Paul

Hi Wally,
In comparison with your figures the kerb weight of my Ace doesn´t seem unreasonable.

Thanks John for the quick response.

The chassis number is DE 1052, I believe its one of the last Brooklands Aces to have been built in UK and its a soft top version.

Well the inspector suggested ditching either the passenger or ditching the tools, jack and spare wheel. I chose to ditch everything in the boot replacing it with a "spare tyre in a can". We ended up with a kerb weight of 1725 Kg. As far as I can see everything is standard on the car so I can only speculate on why the figures differ by so much. I´m wondering if it has a mild steel chassis, this is heavier than stainless steel I believe.

The car is hibernating in a barn at the moment but I plan to give the car a thorough inspection in April/May. Hopefully I´ll find some hidden treasure causing the overweight, but I don´t think so as there is nowhere to hid anything.

   Cheers /Paul

Ace 'Brooklands' Forum / Alloy wheel centre caps
« on: November 13, 2013, 07:59:40 »
I´ve seen a set of rims for sale with centre caps that look very similar to the Brooklands Ace rims. They were fitted to a BMW E36 series, model year´92. See http://en.bildelsbasen.se/?link=item&post_id=22554970. I´ve no idea if these rims were standard for that particular model. Hope this info. helps.

Ace 'Brooklands' Forum / Window weatherstrip
« on: June 10, 2015, 10:55:32 »
I've been searching unsuccesfully for replacement outer weatherstrips (door glass seals) for the windows, and 'd' profile rubber protection strips that run along the side of door and wings, for my Ace.

Does anybody know where I can source these?

Ace 'Brooklands' Forum / Weight

I purchased a Brooklands Ace (1995) in July last year; I´ve been smiling ever since.
I went through the Swedish registration and road-worthiness inspection in September. The inspector could not find the EEC conformancy registration info. so we used the handbook info. The environmental figures for exhaust were very good, mechanics were o.k., rust acceptable, but when it came to the WEIGHT we both got a shock! The car was just a few kilos shy of 1750 kg on the weighbridge scales

My question is has anyone else experienced this, and is there an explanation for all this overweight?
