Vintage, PVT & 2 Litre Forum / Rear spring removal (2 Litre).
« on: August 28, 2013, 22:54:39 »
I'm contemplating removing the rear leafsprings from my 2 litre. However, the handbook instructions do not make sense. They say that you should support the chassis and then remove the front pivot bolts from the springs. But because the chassis is underslung, the axle is pressed against the chassis with 5 inches of spring deflection waiting to be released.

If one releases the axle from the springs first instead, the rear underpan prevents you from allowing the springs to relax.

Has anybody here performed this spring removal?

Vintage, PVT & 2 Litre Forum / AC Royal on UK TV yesterday.
« on: August 16, 2013, 15:00:23 »
It was delightful to see an AC Royal on the TV show "Classic Car Club" last night. As much as I like Tony Mason, he made a major blunder with the comments that "...it's not a performance car, that's for sure. With a 1.5 engine developing 12hp, about the same as a moped"!

For those outside the UK, the 12hp was a taxation rating that was considerably lower than the real power output. I think it was more than 30bhp output from this Anzani engine, but I'm hoping someone here can provide the correct figure?

I noticed an ACOC badge on that Royal, so the owner might be among us?

Vintage, PVT & 2 Litre Forum / Another 2 Litre Saloon for sale
« on: August 12, 2013, 21:15:36 »
A 1950 Saloon (wrongly advertised as 1949) has emerged from storage and is for sale, in Lincolnshire:

It certainly looks good on the surface and worth an inspection for anyone who fancies some 2 Litre motoring. I'm not keen on that take on the 2 tone paint theme, reminiscent of the AC that appeared in the "Midsomer Murders" TV series, but still a very nice motor.

Vintage, PVT & 2 Litre Forum / 1949 2 Litre Saloon for sale

There's a splendid looking 2 Litre for sale in Kent, UK, that is on the road. Lovely interior. Body looks good from the photos, although the description refers to it as being "all aluminium" - woodwork is not mentioned!

Vintage, PVT & 2 Litre Forum / AC 2 Litre on ebay.

A 2 Litre has come up for sale on ebay, that I had the pleasure of riding in back in 1984. I recall that it was with its first owner for over 30 years. Now looking superficially tired, hopefully the seller's claim of an "easy" restoration will prove to be true!

It is pictured brand new in Leo Archibald's book. It still looks quite original today.

Vintage, PVT & 2 Litre Forum / Buckland and Saloon for sale.
« on: March 16, 2013, 12:34:10 »
There's an unusual 1949 Buckland for sale in Belgium. It's fitted with wire wheels and a much altered interior, giving it more of a Jaguar look:

And there is a 1951 Saloon for sale (by auction) in Dorset:

It's on the road and part restored.
