Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Aceca: removing the footbox?
« on: March 04, 2012, 08:08:45 »
Robin, I think that Peter is referring to the fibreglass footboxes/bulkhead rather than to the chassis mounted pedal box

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Aceca: removing the footbox?
« on: March 02, 2012, 20:41:09 »
From looking at AE503 currently with me for restoration it looks to be very difficult if not impossible to remove the footboxes without cutting them apart.
It would then be very difficult to reattach them correctly particularly to the A post structure.
As you can see from the photo that you've already mentioned, the footboxes and A posts were in place before the outer panels were fitted.

I think the box below the handbrake and the steel angle section along the tunnel are not original. I guess someone wanted to strengthen the handbrake mount and provide a fixing for seat belts. When you want to remove the plywood from the back of the B post you will find that it is also securing the edge of the rear wing panel, there are small nails passing through the aluminium hiding under the paint and filler. Happy hunting![:)]

The front brakes look very like Triumph TR3 type B split calipers, rather than the one piece A type normally fitted to some Aces. The discs could also be TR3 but one of the AC specialists in the UK should be able to tell you for sure.

   Good luck with the rebuild.

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Bristol radiator hoses
« on: January 09, 2015, 20:02:01 »
Can anyone suggest a source of the original type corrugated radiator hoses for an Ace Bristol? I've tried the usual suspects such as Brian Eacott but so far no joy. The main problem appears to be the sizes, the top hose is 38mm ID and the lower hose is 42mm ID. Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Ace/Aceca seat runners
« on: March 11, 2014, 12:09:12 »
I've just received a set of new seat runners from Frederic Delaere in Belgium and wanted to post some photos on here as the quality is fantastic, even down to the engraving on the operating lever exactly as the original. It was well worth the wait as I just missed out on his first batch.

He also sent me some photos of a pair of new Ace seats that he can make to order. He also mentioned that he is now in the final stages of producing new Ace/Aceca steering column gaiters, as these were also no longer being produced by anyone.

   Regards Luke.

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / BEX 366 discovered
« on: December 06, 2013, 21:04:09 »
I first discovered the whereabouts of BEX 366 two and a half years ago.
Last week, after a lengthy period of delicate negotiation the car passed from
its long time custodian into the hands of a new owner, a great AC enthusiast.

BEX 366 was delivered to its first owner Count Schönborn-Buchheim in October
1957. It was the only postwar AC to have been imported new into Austria. Count
Schönborn kept the car in his ownership until March 1963 where upon it was bought by
its second aristocratic owner Count Hoyos. He owned the car until October 1964 when
it was purchased by a young Klaus Klöpfer. Mr Klöpfer was to keep the car for
   the next forty nine years!

As found, the car seems to be in remarkably original condition still retaining its original
weather equipment, side screen bag and 16'' wheels. The paintwork was changed from
the original silver to red by Mr Klöpfer but the original paint is still visible in the bonnet and boot shuts.
The interior is still the original light blue and the seat leather is still surprisingly supple.Since 1964 the car has covered just 17 000 kilometers!

The car will be staying in Austria and its new owner will be embarking on a sympathetic restoration including returning the paintwork to its original colour.

Sorry about the rather poor photos but I only had the chance to take a few quick snaps before the car was moved from its former home.

BEX366 Together with her owner for the last 49 years!

The seat leather is still supple but the carpet is showing its age.

The owner moved the ignition switch under the dash due to people switching on the lights when the car was parked.

   1989 Autobahn sticker.

Original side screen trimmed in dark blue.

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Record Aceca price?
« on: May 12, 2012, 13:03:36 »
Aceca BE575 sold yesterday at Bonhams Monaco sale, http://www.bonhams.com/auctions/20438/lot/222/
For a non original V8 engined car 138 000 euros is a lot of money and I think an auction record price for any Aceca. It seems finally prices are on the march for these much under appreciated and rare cars.

   Regards, Luke

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / UMB engine
« on: January 17, 2012, 22:56:59 »
Due to a change of direction with my customers Aceca restoration a fully rebuilt UMB engine and original moss non overdive gearbox could shortly be available for sale.
I hope the above will not cause offence and complies with forum etiquette. The intention is to offer this engine to forum/club members before advertising more widely.[:)]
