Hey everyone, Here's a blunt attempt to see if anyone is interested in racing anything other than an AC:

General Forum / British car event
« on: July 01, 2008, 00:53:17 »
Check out http://www.twinbaybrits.com They organize a tour/show event  August 11th. No kitcars, American Muscle cars, just brits.

For Those Ac owners in MI or region that are willing to travel up north. I live in the area and can attest to it's natural beauty. Torch Lake is spectacular and if you make it a long weekend, there are excellent restaurants in the area and touring the Lelenau peninsula and Old Mission Peninsula is fabulous. Try out some of the wineries!

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / distributor
« on: June 20, 2008, 21:05:17 »
I got one of those new 123 units to replace a worn out original distributor on my 59 Aceca, ace engine. Robin Woolmer sent me the gear to make it fit. Has anybody installed one of these yet and what advance setting have you used to make the car run optimal?

   Thanks,

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Moss Gear box
« on: April 12, 2008, 19:34:21 »
Can anyone shed any light on the availability of internals or even a replacement gear box? Was this Moss gear box used in the same form on other British cars of the day? I have some issues with the 2 nd gear synchro not working at all times.

   Thanks,

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Aceca prices
« on: February 19, 2008, 16:02:57 »
1959 AC 16/80 ACECA GREEN w/ RED int. 6 CYLINDER 4 SPD., Original, unrestored, running, and driving specimen. One of only 316 ever built. Rare left hand drive. INQUIRE [More Detail]

This is an ad from Northshore motorsports in Illinois, USA.
The car is tired to say the least, but looks like it really needs a full resto. ASking price is $95.000. Looks like the Acecas are enjoying, albeit at a lesser rate, the same boom the Aces are experiencing. Makes me wonder why some of the car mags still rate an excellent condition Aceca at around 27.000 pounds. Does anyone have a more realistic handle on what current Aceca values are? They don't come up for sale very often.

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / AEX 674
« on: September 27, 2007, 21:33:16 »
Who can provide me with some info on my Aceca AEX 674?
I learned the car was an export to Canada and from there went to the USA, but I have no other details. No ownership and usage details. Am I correct in understanding that all cars after 1956 were delivered with front discs? Mine is titled 1959, but it came with front drums. Also My SU carbs are unusual and the manifolds have been ported. The car came originally with 16 inch wheels and had original michelins as well as Dunlop racing tyres on it. I read some detailed info on one of the other posts, I wonder if the registrar has some of the factory delivery date and export data to share? If anyone knows any history on this car, please help. Also, I learned recently there is an avid Ac collector in Maine. Supposedly owns a dozen of them. Does anyone know who this is and whether my car past through his ownership at some point in time?

Thank you for any and all info you can supply.

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / SU Carb tuning
« on: September 07, 2007, 15:12:46 »
HELP!

Mt car is all done. I took car of the brakes, clutch and oil leak issues. With a brand new pedal box assembly. The pedals operate smooth like a new car.

Brakes are fantastic with the front Disc conversion. Steering is super tight and precise with the steering rack conversion. The car looks fantastic!.

But, in spite of the engine rebuild with upgrades such as a mild comp cam, new pistons and con rods, a ported head, new sleeves, gaskets etc and an increase in compression from stock to 9:1 ratio (according to Robin Woolmer) I can't seem to get power out of this engine.

I've had various widely ranging suggestions on timing with the new cam.
It is now set at 12 degrees advance and 36 total. the carbs are problematic. They have been completely rebuilt by professional SU guys. But they mostly do twin set ups for MG's. The plugs look good, it's not running lean or rich. But power feels flat. Synchronizing these carbs is problematic, largely I think due to the spring-linkage. The first carb always leads out before the others follow and open up.

Can anyone offer me any suggestions on tuning these SU's?

   Thanks,

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / She's Home!!
« on: August 26, 2007, 02:10:06 »
I've got a bunch of photo's to upload, but man, does she look good! At least, I think so.
Put my first miles on it. Got a few issues to deal with: leaky bottom radiator hose, sweaty copper oil passages to the remote oil filter, and carbs that need some major tuning. Oh, and spongy soft brakes, because the front circuit is ever so slightly leaking at the master cylinder.
I guess one can't expect it to be perfect out of the box, or should I?

So hopefully we can get all these issue fixed before I take off to join the Carolina Trophy on September 9th at the Biltmore Estate.

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / awaiting finish
« on: August 21, 2007, 03:56:15 »
While I am awaiting the finishing of my Aceca, this past weekend I had the pleasure of doing a track demo with Ron Mack (CSX 3106) and his 427 racing demon. Ron had donated track time in his original car for the Muscular Dystrophy Association and the lucky winner of the auction got his ride. This was a part of the VSCDA Au Grattan vintage race festival in Grand Rapids, MI.  This lucky driver got to try to follow all of the 750 ponies around the track in my 289 FIA replica (Kirkham) Needless to say, getting on the straight end of the track the big block torque absolutely smoked the small block, but the sound from two race tuned cars with completely un-muffled sidepipes was great!
Anyway, I should finally be able to pick up the Aceca this week. I can't wait!!

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Aceca build update
« on: June 06, 2007, 23:46:38 »
Here are a few more pictures, now it has some more leather in it. The red is bright, but not as bright as the picture would imply. The flash tends to bring the color out more than in real life. In my opinion it looks really good! Wrinkle finish on the gauge pods, epoxy coating inside the footwells and on the roll bar, big, fat fuel filler neck. This will be covered with leather wrapped aluminum cover. Engine is going together this week. Should be done before the end of this month, so Ron tells me....

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Aceca build update
« on: May 21, 2007, 19:51:20 »
Here's some extra pictures as the car progresses. The interior has all new Aluminum paneling, covered in red (very red) leather. The pictures don't do it justice, it looks nicer in real life. The "glove box" is covered in suede and is red also (not pinkish!) Carpet will cover the trunk floor and the fiberglass wall behind the cockpit and the trunk. New door panels were made, also covered in leather. 14 inch Moto Lita wheel, mounted on original hub, with the Rack and Pinion steering conversion. The gauge pods are wrinkle finish black paint. Driver's seat will be a racing bucket in black vinyl. Both original seats were re-upholstered in red leather. Carbs are original SU's, completely overhauled, with velocity stack intakes and tea strainer "airfilters".
Exhaust will be custom built: headers like original on AC engine and pipe exiting right in front of the rear wheel.
Needless to say, I'm getting pretty anxious to drive this thing.

As I am close to finishing the Aceca, I was just wondering if anyone knows how many of these cars are known to be in existence today. I believe originally only 327 were built, but how many are still around today?

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Aceca build update
« on: April 27, 2007, 18:12:13 »
The project came to a halt for a little bit, but is back on the move. All the "dirty" work is done and it is assemble time now. The Head of the engine has been machined, got a Fuel Safe cell made for the car, that should go in today. Awesome painted Dayton wires with period correct tyres. All the aluminum paneling has been made and prefitted. Now cover it with red leather and put the seats in....Lucas Rally lights on the front as well as after market Tripods will be mounted, Ac bumper overriders from Gerry Hawk. Ron has done an awesome job of rebuilding this thing. The Ac Engine got a lot of new goodies from the UK, should make it purr pretty good. I know it won't be performing like a Bristol, but it sure should run well. Check out the tea strainers on my 289 Webers! What a great idea! Now if I could get the damn things to run smooth! I'm putting trumpets on the SU's with the same tea strainers for "airfilters"
The photo quality is not that good this time, more to come. Check out Ron's Real One! Vintage raced for years, 2 log books full, 14:1 compression 427 side oiler with 700 ponies.
