General Forum / Keith Lessiter's Father's day
« on: November 21, 2010, 16:05:10 »
Keith asked me to post some pictures on his behalf:

Very rarely do I visit the Ace/ Aceca Brooklands section of the club Forum,
however quick visit this morning brought back memories when I was given the
keys to a light green Aceca Brooklands.

BEX333 was with Steve Gray at Brooklands Motor Co ( A  C Heritage ) for
repairs inflicted on departure from the Ferry returning from competing in
the Manx Classic in 2007.  The Ace went well, the Driver did OK, however the
Ferry ramp creased the exhaust manifolds and pushed the rear outrigger
through the offside rear tyre and the exhaust system through the rear
wing....  Gutted or What?.  My Son Barry was very positive and said "Dad it
could have been worse, it could have happened on the way to the event"
   .........  Positive Thinking.

   I digress.

Upon arrival at Brooklands Circuit -  The Mercedes Test Track,  Steve Gray
threw me a set of keys and said as it's Fathers day ( 17th June 2007) would
I like to take my Father round the Test track in the Light Green AC Aceca.

Well,  what a silly question ..... like asking if the Pope is Catholic.

Please find attached 7 photos of said Aceca, my Father & I putting in a few
Laps.  The owner of this Aceca and another plus a 3rd body and a vast hoard
of spares was Piers J Martin from Lancaster UK.  Who enjoyed the sight and
sound of His  Aceca being driven fairly hard round the circuit. (only had
about 650 miles on the odometer)

   Cheers for Now

   Regards

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Ruddspeed?
« on: November 08, 2010, 18:22:32 »
I had an email conversation with Rod Leach about his latest ad in the Octane magazine. He is presenting a "essentially the same as a Ruddspeed Ace" car with a Chassis Number from a 2 liter saloon.

How does that work? The 2 liter does not share the same or similar chassis, does it?

General Forum / advertisement
« on: September 10, 2010, 02:45:04 »
I might have missed a previous post, if there was one, but has anyone said anything about the advertisement for insurance on the forum pages?
I, for one, find this quite annoying. maybe the ACOC gets decent revenues out of this, but to have this advert cover our own logo seems to go a bit far.

Has anyone else noticed or cared?

General Forum / Monterey Historics and Pebble beach photos
« on: August 19, 2010, 13:06:43 »
This is a link to the well over 800 photos I took at the Monterey extravaganza. I'm no photographer, but there are an enormous amount of very special cars in them. Some Ac's at the races, including a number of Cobras. Click the link to my flickr account.

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / The last RS car is born
« on: June 17, 2010, 20:49:33 »
Provided there will be no hiccups, I'm hoping to present to the world the last RS car produced at the Concourse d'Elegance at the Kohler International Challenge at Road America, Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.

The car is getting it's final coat of paint now and will be in final assembly during the next few weeks.

The car in question was the butt of jokes on this forum in 2008. It did, however,  provoke my curiosity and I decided to contact the seller after the auction ended with no bids.

As it turned out, the car in question was indeed the last RS car produced by AC. In 2004 two cars were produced on original tooling by AC at Frimley: RS 5037 and RS 5038. 5037 was, as I understand it, completed by Steve Grey at AC Heritage for a client. 5038 came to the US to be built as a demonstrator for the start up AC heritage USA division, which was to be headed by Mitch Lampert. He, at that time, owned a restoration facility for vintage WACO aircraft and figured he had the craftsmen in house to build AC's.
For one reason or another, this did not end up happening and RS 5038 sat in a hangar for some time, until I picked it up there in January of 2009.
Mitch Lampert put me in touch with Alan Lubinski, whom I had some nice and informative conversations with about the car and he went on to send me official certification of the car and chassis number and sent me a scan of the Ac registry with the number entered. Steve Grey later also confirmed the car's authenticity.

The Cars were to be finished with Triumph 6 cylinder engines for Ac Heritage. This I did not want to do. As 2.6 Zephyr Fords are not as easy to come by on this side of the pond, I decided to take some creative liberty and finish the drive train as the original Cobra prototype, with a Ford 260 V8 with Cross-Ram intake and Weber side drafts, coupled to a 4 speed top loader. The car is therefore similar to the "cutaway" image produced for the first road test of the 260 Cobra as published by Sportscar Graphic, in 1962.(published in Rinsey Mills' book "Original AC Ace and Cobra"

Over the past year I have sourced parts to complete the work, both in the UK as state side. Ron Mack, from RP Mack motorsports in Spring Lake, MI did all of the fabrication, built the engine and assembled the car. It's in it's final stages now, and, as I mentioned earlier, I'm hoping it will be completed very soon.

The car will be finished in a single stage urethane Red from Dupont. A nicely sophisticated darker red. It will have wire wheels with 5 inch rims, painted in body color. Interior will be black carpeting and leather with tan seats. It will have a wrap around perspex windscreen.

Photos will be forthcoming. I would like to write a story about the process with photos for the ACtion magazine as well.

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / History on lonnie Rix's Ac Bristol
« on: April 18, 2010, 23:30:17 »
I recently met with Jerry Entin. He raced Can Am cars in the day and also was involved in managing racing teams, one of which was a Formula 5000 team that employed Jody Scheckter in his younger days. He told me about a story he had written about an AC and ent me the link. You all may have seen this before already, but I thought it would be nice to post it on the website.

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / aceca sale
« on: November 16, 2009, 21:06:21 »
This is text from the website of motorsports market. It has a picture of a red Aceca with Carrera Panamericana livery. I have seen high quality pictures of this car at supercars.com
the ad says this car sold for $44.500. Is this a typo? Does anyone know anything about the sale of this car and when that sale took place?

   History

The car was originally sold to South America from the A.C. factory in the late 1950's. It later made its way back to England, and into the hands of a gentleman named Adrian Hall - one of the foremost A.C. racers in England and in Europe.

In 1989, the Aceca was completely stripped to its bare frame and lightweight aluminum body panels. All components were gone through, rebuilt, and prepared to Hall's high competition standards by his in-house race car mechanics. The car was then registered with the FIA, and made ready for Hall to compete in the Carrera Panamericana Road Race.

However, before the car was raced, it was purchased by its current owner. The car was then inspected and prepared by Hall & Fowler in England, before its first outing at the Copperstate 1000 in the U.S. The new owner ran the Aceca in the Copperstate 1000, completing an enjoyable and trouble-free event.

Although presently stored, the Aceca is continually run and kept fresh. It is currently ready for street use, vintage rallies, and/or vintage racing.

   Description

The Aceca is composed of a tube frame chassis covered by lightweight aluminum body panels. It is powered by a 145 h.p. two litre, six cylinder, Bristol engine with triple SU carburetors. The car also has a four speed overdrive transmission.

The Aceca has transverse leaf spring suspension, similar to the Shelby Cobra. It also has competition front disc brakes and rear drum brakes. It has been lightened throughout. The Aceca has plastic windows, aerodynamic body panels, a hood mounted debris deflector for endurance events, ram-air carburetor induction, as well as vented roofing for cooling and improved aerodynamics. The car also has a full roll cage for safety and frame stiffening.

This Aceca is one of only 84 produced. It is eligible for all groups of historic "A" racing, rivaling 356 Porsches and the Aston DB2/4. It is in excellent, and race-ready condition.

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Hood locks
« on: September 11, 2009, 02:12:54 »
Does anyone know if the original style locks for the early aces/acecas with the separate key are available in the aftermarket or does anyone have these for sale?

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Brakes
« on: July 22, 2009, 02:15:55 »
Did I see a post in the not too distant past about interchangeable brakes for the Ace's?
Am I correct in understanding the Triumph TR3 brakes (discs, calipers) can be used as they were from the same supplier originally?

Who can lead me out of the dark?

   Thanks,
