Progress...
Watching with interest. 👍🏻

That’s so frustrating, Gary! A quick scan shows “KOP102” offered at £2000 all in, but I think their chances of actually selling 108 for that price are slim. Probably half that, and how long would it take to sell? Pity there isn’t a ‘KOP ***’ example here to go by: https://dvlaregistrations.dvla.gov.uk/search/previous-auction-plates.html?searched=true&plate=Kop%20&start=0
If you can play a waiting game, make it clear the plate will not be transferred off the car, and that there is no value in something that is just sat there decaying to the point where neither car nor plate are saleable, you might still get it?
Good luck!

Images and info on BE 1199 came from Russ Swift, and COB 6018 from Keith Lessiter, so all credit to them, I just put ‘em here! 👍🏻😁

Another we can knock off the list is COB 6018, which Keith confirms is still graced with its original paint, and no repairs, so although it has the radio aerial, there were no wing mirrors. 👍🏻
Keith’s photos from 2003. Love that car!

Russ Swift sent me a couple of period photos of an Ace which he used to own, BE1199, which was rebodied with a Cobra shell At Thames Ditton as a possible contender, but I think I can just about make out front & rear bumpers in Ted’s pic, which aren’t on the Acebra! The wheels appear to be a deeper dish than above too, which they would need to be to fill Cobra arches on an Ace chassis. But, the front overriders appear taller on Ted’s pic than they do on the ‘JAP1D’ pic...or is that just a trick of the angle the photo was taken at...AAAaargh! 🧐

(I think we have decided that BE1199 is the ‘Cobra’ that Twiggy posed on in 1966, and that had a radio aerial then, but it’s not evident in the pics from Russ...and since Russ sold it, the Cobra body has been removed and BE1199 now looks like an Ace again!)

I finally managed to locate Trevor Legate’s “Cobra-The RealThing!” And although the wing mirrors aren’t there, (as Robin suggests, maybe they found them neither useful, nor ornamental by 1971!) the radio aerial certainly is. If you look closely, you can see that by this time, 6025 had been converted into an “occasional +2”!

There is no doubt that we have located BEX 310, and numbers have been found on the doors and trunk/hood hinge areas. But as expected, it would appear that the R.H. engine mount is missing. I have photos, but they are coming in with too large a format to post. Now what?
You could ‘screenshot’ them and crop smaller. 👍🏻

Oh no! Sorry to see this!
For insurance estimates, AC Heritage at Brooklands, Kingswell Coachworks, G&A Fabrications or someone like that?
Hope you get the Ol’ Girl good as new soon!

It certainly has Cobra arches, so I think it could be COB 6025, when it was registered JAP 1D, as I’ve seen a photo of it doing some trial in one of Trevor Legate’s books!
Don’t have books to hand now, so can’t confirm, but it certainly looks like it’s been mudplugging!

Back to the subject of value, $20k feels very light as you put it, given the race history. Having said that the parts bill is going to add up very fast...
Here's a further idea though, you could make a very interesting NHRA classic street class dragster...Particularly if the drag racing history is documented.
...I shall never be forgiven for mentioning drag racing on the AC forum!
I think there would be a good case for restoring to it’s Drag Race configuration, if that is where the most historically significant part of BEX310’s past lies, but I suspect although the restoration cost would be significantly higher, the Lucky Casner connection may be of greater ‘interest’.
Either way, I look forward to BEX 310’s life & history continuing. 👍🏻

Replacing the chassis or monocoque does not involve transferring the VIN from one vehicle to another.  It is the repair of the existing vehicle.
But of course, discarded chassis or monocoque must be verified as destroyed, or you have just created a ‘ringer’! 😉😆
(Imagining our Mk1 Escort rally car again...you crash it, buy a new shell, and all the bits to complete, and put your ‘original’ vin on it...”Yeah, it’s been repaired”...but then you get greedy, sell the complete crashed car, lo and behold, the shell wasn’t that bad after all... 2 cars, 1 vin...
Oh dear....)
