Had something similar with the Healey Club back in the late '80s with a series of races across US circuits, cars all shipped from one point in UK to one point in US and transported around the States by truck. Great fun, reasonably priced but took several years to organise.
Stab at minimum cost for 2 weeks $6k-$10k ?
Shipping, Packing (cars have to be secured with wooden frames within the containers)they also have to be fully drained of fuel and steam cleaned (US Dept of Agriculture requirement)customs clearance (will they want a bond in the US?), maritime and touring insurance can also be high cost, also what about overnight security wherever the tour stays?
However given the low cost of accomodation, food , gas (and repairs/spares)in the US if you can get the car shipping costs down you can count us in.[8D]

The very same, 13k on the clock and still on its original tyres! The original 506 SP reg plate had been changed so I replaced it with one I could remember. Plenty of Dax and Crendons around for far more money than these.

THE BEST VALUE IN CLASSIC CAR MOTORING [8D]

35
CHEAPER THAN MOST KIT CARS!! AC COBRA MK IV CRSs ARE SUCH FANTASTIC VALUE AND WITHOUT ALL THE HAND WRINGING ASSOCIATED WITH ALLOY BODIED MK IVs.
   AT THESE PRICES WHO CARES!

DAMN! I was going to fit a 427 motor with sidepipes and paint my original AC (Ferrari) Giallo Fly CRS in Wimbledon Blue with white stripes plus put on one of those chrome roll hoop things and a set of 15inch knock offs on Goodyear rubber.(And a Monza filler cap)
Now you say this will make it non-original, you've spoiled my dream.
Almost forgot removing the carpet, radio, speakers, adding the Nardi steering wheel etc and eventually getting an old nostalgic to sell it as an FIA dated Cobra....[:D]
PS Question - Can you fit a Kirkham or Hawk alloy body to a CRS? Will it make it a real MK IV and command some respect...[:o)]

I took mine off after grounding it a couple of times - have not noticed any difference, but then I have no intention of taking it on a track or driving at 10/10ths on the highway[:)]

By the way yesterday at Donnington the club area comprised 1 CRS, 1 aceca, 1 ME, 1 Dax? and a superperformance coupe [:0]

The first time I took out my CRS an admirer at a local filling station walked round the car and said "That's a beautiful job you've done there mate, how long did she take you ?" After a few moments his meaning sank in to my brain and I replied "No its a real one, a real AC , look at the whel nuts, one of the last" to which the reply was "Pull the other one mate no one drives real AC Cobras on the road".
I guess the main benefit of the general public confusion is that car thieves are unlikely to run off with a "kit car".[:o)]

Mole Valley Motors were going to be agents for Perana in this country and had the same image on their web site as a sales promo. I was tempted by a Perana (a gorgeous supercar at Merc money -  now as an AC I would definitely buy one (regardless of what status the club gave it!!) [:)]

Does that include CRS models?

41
On a lighter note (just to keep everybody smiling) [:)]
Just renewed the insurance on my CRS and had to spend 15 minutes convincing the broker the I hadn't built it myself and yes they were still making them in 1999/2000![:p]

Thanks guys, plenty to go at here, wouldn't I love a wing mounted filler too - hate to fill up with my wife sitting in the car as it always seems to spray even with the most careful filling.
Good job she never looks round !![:D]

Thanks Bruce,  have you also gained a little bit more legroom in there by bringing the seats right back ? I want to remove a whole monster speaker set and replace the back panel so probably could all be done at the same time.

Just had a complete set of wet weather gear made by Gerry at Hawk cars and a very nice job they have done. He will need the car to take measurements as they are all different (individual?)[:)] Now we can go to the Lemans Classic - although havent told the nearest it involves an overnight boat trip [;)]

General Forum / Cobra 50th Anniversary 2012 - Ideas for Event??
« on: September 20, 2011, 15:53:31 »
Mark,
Perhaps the answer for us MkVI/CRS Cobra owners is to have our own officially sanctioned AC Club events and not to crash other people's parties.
That way if we have more events (and maybe more fun [:)]) then some of the original Cobra owners and their original cars would come to our gatherings as esteemed guests of honour.

A bit like inviting your granny to your 21st party, everyone is happy to see her even though she leaves before the dancing and you know she's only doing it out of duty. [:o)]
