Vintage, PVT & 2 Litre Forum / Edwardian period AC panel van
« on: September 11, 2019, 12:00:19 »
Interesting photo has surfaced of a panel van made in 1914. Clearly a Fivet-engined AC made by Auto Carriers Ltd. The photo apparently was a press release, though with war looming probably got nowhere (and unlikely of use by the War Office with then the lack of engine availability from France).

The VSCC Prescott Speed Hill Climb took place three weeks back. It has become a one of the finest pre-1940 display of cars, to be seen anywhere, with more than 400 visiting vintage/PVT cars in the car park alone, more in the paddock. Photos below from 'Classic and Sports Car' with the latter photo captioned 'this post-war AC Ace sneaked in....' (!):

Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance is one of the top in the world, so it was nice to see a 1929 AC entered this year. This being the 5-seater open-tourer, that was part of the John Moir Collection, sold by RM Sotheby's at Hershey in 2014. It is one of only two surviving 6-cylinder five-seater tourers. The car suffered a fire since the sale, but has now again been been brought back to the highest standard by Automotive Restorations of Connecticut.

Edit - Couldn't resist another photo of this car (taken before the fire incident), exhibited at Lime Rock Concours, CT:

Although the six-cylinder engine was first shown at Olympia in 1919, it wasn’t until the 1923 sales brochure that the engine was offered to the public, installed in various body styles.

Below are two photos; the first, of this early engine (with an inlet manifold design I've not seen before) and the second, the printed detail of the engine. It may be necessary to download so as to enlarge on the computer screen.

Vintage, PVT & 2 Litre Forum / Vintage AC Six for sale
« on: November 13, 2018, 11:59:38 »
A 1929 AC Six for sale.

This is one of the last from the S F Edge era (with the tall radiator and likely 56hp engine). It is not, however, an S F Edge Special as described in the text. Engine said to be rebuilt though needs finishing and installing.

General Forum / A blog on AC cars
« on: February 25, 2018, 13:29:01 »
A very good collection of photos of AC's through the years, lots of information (though not all correct), charts on production numbers etc - a commendable effort, with a lot of work, by the blogger. Scroll down as production years are repeated further on (I suppose as this is the second version):

For those with PVT models 16/60, 16/70 and 16/80 this original article by The Motor Trader, published 1938 (Service Data Number 54), is for sale on Ebay. It contains engine data, drawings (e.g. of steering box), wiring diagram, maintenance diagram, list of lubricants, lots of technical info. Bids start at £9.....a bargain.

PS Should add this item is nothing to do with me, simply advising the forum for info!

Vintage, PVT & 2 Litre Forum / Vintage AC parts available
« on: December 18, 2017, 22:00:00 »
It is most unusual, a rare event, to be offred parts for 1920's AC cars:

   (1) An advert in this month's 'The Automobile' offers AC Royal 12hp mechanical parts, mainly engine parts for the Anzani including carburettor. Contact is rileyrme1@gmaail.com or tel 07732 316082

   (2) A 1926 vintage AC Six (ch. no. 13592) was dismantled more than seven years ago. Some parts have remained with the owner's family, and appear unfortunately to be heading to the rubbish skip, whilst other parts have since been dispersed. A major selection of the spares are now with Rod Briggs who is offering them for sale. A list has been produced containing, for example, front axle beam, many brake parts (including drums, shoes, rods), stub axles, steering box, wood dasboard fascia, halfshafts and hubs, headlamps, sidelights and more. The complete 1920's catspaw engine will be sold as a unit. Anyone interested (or desperate for a part) can contact Rod direct on 01458 273476.

I hope the availability of these parts may get, or keep, a few of our vintage cars out on the road!
