ACOC News and Events / ACOC Rest and Be Thankful 2013
« on: March 25, 2013, 13:42:39 »
Since last years epic bit of 'off roading' during the 2012 International we are pleased to report that, at enormous expense, the old military road at 'Rest and Be Thankful' has been resurfaced.

Come and join us on Drive It Day by testing this lovely smooth tarmacadam.

We will gather for dinner and an informal evening at Kenmore Hotel on Loch Tay (http://www.kenmorehotel.com) on Saturday 20th April. On Sunday 21st April, after breakfast, we will proceed to The Rest for some gentle exercise of the A.C.s. Note that the Highways Department do have first call on the newly resurfaced Rest as an emergency diversion in the event of a land slip affecting the main A83 - no such thing as a free lunch, but this is as close as it gets. In the unlikely event of a land slide I guess we will just have to do the distillery visit......

After that there will be a chance for a late lunch or high tea at Loch Fyne or Inveraray and another night at Kenmore. All informal though - join and depart as you wish at any stage.

There is an offer for us at Kenmore - Dinner B&B for £109 per room, however they will not hold this price as the date approaches so early booking is advised. Of course there are other hotels and B&B in the area if you prefer.

Any questions to Barrie or Graham or, for those who are part of the Yorkshire raiding party to Howard. Timings and routes later when we know the participants.

General Forum / Proposed Tojeiro and Buckland Reunion
« on: February 02, 2013, 10:55:57 »
Tojeiro and AC Buckland factory reunion

Barkway and Buckland are adjacent villages in North Herts. near the A10.

Premises in High St, Barkway are where Tojeiro manufactured cars, having moved there from Buckland where they were close to the premises in which AC Buckland tourer bodies were built. The AC Ace was of course developed from a Tojeiro prototype.

Within these villages are still a number of people who worked there or whose fathers worked in these places.

The idea is to bring all of these people and their memories together with the owners of the cars they made, and hopefully with the cars themselves, one Saturday or Sunday in the coming summer with August 17/18/24/25 and Sept 7 as possible dates

The next town, just a few miles away, is Buntingford, the home of Blakeney Motorsport. Patrick has offered to support the idea of a reunion, and to offer a tour of his facilities.

The next village in the other direction is Barley where there operates a high quality vintage body and trim building and restoration company. Motoring history is all around us here.

If you are interested please contact the organiser, Jim Dalton, to let him know and also tell him YOUR PREFERRED DATE - preferably also let him know any dates that are impossible for you.

Jim's email address is JD at beacon-uk dot com

General Forum / RAC EUROPEAN COVER
« on: June 18, 2012, 10:30:25 »
I have just taken out RAC European Breakdown Cover for the Le Mans Classic expedition.

I tried to do it online but failed, sent them an email asking whether the cover was still available and they called me back this morning.  It is available and it is worth telephoning them for a quote as they offer a good discount for ACOC members over the phone which isn't available online even if you can get the internet system to work.

« on: June 02, 2012, 14:23:42 »
There will be a Dinner on the eve of this event at the newly established pub restaurant “The Quince Tree” which is next door to the Stonor Park Estate.

Parking is restricted there, and if you intend staying at the nearby Lambert Arms on the 18th August, (where rooms have been reserved for ACOC members), a coach will be available.

If you will be coming please let Tony Michaels know soon so that reservation numbers can be confirmed and details of the menu sent to you.

At the ACOC AGM held in London last week, Andy Shepherd was elected Chairman of the AC Owners Club. Andy is 58 years old and has been an active member of the Club for over 30 years. During most of that time he has been the AC 428 Frua Registrar, and latterly the Vice Chairman. He has wide experience of the Ace Bristol, the 289 Cobra, the Mk IV Cobra and the 428 Frua and is keen to be involved with and promote all the AC models. Over the last 30 years he has raced many different ACs both in the UK and abroad, and currently competes with an Ace Bristol in the FISCAR 50s Sportscar Series. Andy wishes to thank Tony Michaels, the outgoing Chairman, for all his help and service to the Club over the past 6 years.

Congratulations to Andy on his election!
