Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Aceca for sale in CA

I watched the white Aceca with a 2.6 Ford race at Sears Point way back when early classic racing began. The guy driving it was a master. He played that car within inches of the wall at the hairpin turn at the end of the straight away.

Walt Petersen built the "MONGOOSE". It was one of the early V8 powered AC roadsters. The guy he built it for took driving lessons from Shelby at Sears Point I think it was. He drove the car in those sessions and I think Shelby was impressed with the thing. There is a Hot Rod magazine article detailing the Mongoose. I have it here somwhere but could not put my hands on it. Walt is still about and retains an Aceca. A friend of mine owns the Bristol engined roadster his wife once raced. Walt lives up in Washington state now.

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Ace / Aceca Bishop Cam steering
« on: September 29, 2010, 05:49:21 »
I had a roadster with a Jag 3.5 engine in it and it steered like a tractor. I figured it was the weight of the beasty engine. When I switched to 260 Ford power, the chassis height came up an inch at all corners. I anticipated much lighter steering. Turned out not to be the case. When I checked caster, I found there was 5-6 degrees of positive. Positive caster increases steering effort as you are raising the whole front end when you turn the wheel. I contemplated how to adjust the caster but could only fathom that the upper leaf must be bent slightly rearward. I did nothing in the end. My coupe on the other hand, with the AC engine, steered like a go cart. It was effortless. It had more normal caster in the one degree range. I did purchase a rack that I never used. I remember it being difficult to find a back steerer, ie one that goes behind the front spindles. Mine is still in the rafters down below.

Is there any reference list giving the specifications for the nuts, bolts, and studs used on the AC engine CL2317WT. Right now I need to know the nuts and studs for the main caps. Is everything on the engine BSW?

Old dog checking in with a few pics of my old cars. Two Aces and two Acecas. Done many years ago now but have a look if you are so inclined. I have more detailed pics of each car. My first was the 1956 Ace AEX146. Came with a Jag 3.5 but got a Ford 260. Then there was 1959 Ace AEX485 done original. Then the black Aceca which became silver under the new owner. The chassis number escapes me. Finally, a 1959 Aceca chassis AEX556 also done original.
