I think the gradual approach of the steering wheel to the driver's chest must be universal.  I must have pushed it back in, somewhat automatically, thousands of times in the thirty years I had my Ace.
That operation, along with your gentle cleaning and lubing, is probably the best, if not the only, fix.

It looks like your plug wrench is one with vinyl tape wrapped around a swivel or u-joint.
I wonder if every Bristol engine owner has one.

Starting yesterday all the photos in this thread come up with a block from Photobucket that says "Please update your account to enable 3rd party hosting."
   No other threads (e.g. Radiator Grill) are affected.
   Anybody else experience this?  Know what to do?

Anyone with basic fiberglass skills could make a temporary door that would not affect your Ace's drivability in any way.
   I agree that it deserves the best repair possible, but now you are in line, I would think about continuing to drive it while you wait.
   Also the chances of further mishap would be much less at home than in such a semi-public setting.

   The Ace Bristol I owned was BEX 241, 100D557.
   Still a close brother to the two now being discussed.
