Recent ACs / Re: Again?
« on: May 24, 2022, 21:34:15 »
Update is available:

https://premium.goauto.com.au/new-boss-for-britains-oldest-car-maker/

https://www.auto-illustrierte.ch/de/ac-cobra--aus-der-schweiz--1932

According to the gentleman posting the news the car shown is a „prototype“. We assume it is based on a remaining  MK VI car.

Recent ACs / Again?
« on: April 27, 2022, 23:16:40 »
That was posted in the German Cobra Forum:
The story continues, and we will manufacture another 663 legendary AC Cobras. Get in touch: https://accobra.com/

The Gentleman who posted it explained that:

Behind AC Cars Group AG is a Swiss investor group that has acquired AC Cars Ltd in England. We will publish the international press release at the end of May. Until then, you can register on our landing page to stay up to date.

And later after some comments and questions:

https://www.accars.eu/ Is now part of the new company. Websites will be merged shortly. Please wait for the press release or register to stay up to date.

Do we have any information or news about that?

The bumpers are different between the standard MK IV and the LW version. Or the other way around between short and Lon nose versions. I have a set of original long nose bumpers and a set of LW bumpers.
The telescopic damper is off a 1980s Chevy and modified for the MK IV.
The Europaspares Bumper will be close to a LW version.

If you look from the side a long nose bumper or nudge bar it is angled to be parallel with the radiator opening.

A standard „Cobra“ bumper will not be parallel to the nose and will look awful, it will be orientated more to the vertical.

The threads on the overriders are also angled different and will not allow you to mount the complete assembly parallel.

If you buy everything made from stainless steel you can modify and weld the parts to fit and you can polish them at the end.

very late reply but a reply :-)

The nitpicker in me always want to protect my investment and a 427 side oiler block is quite an investment.

You will not notice a drop in horse power caused by an air filter with an engine like that in a MK IV.

You will see the results on a dyno sheet or if you go racing that animal you could also feel it.

For the filter design I would prefer neither of the above and choose a 60s to late 70s typical double filter element in rectangular or oval shape as we used them for all mods with Webers back in the days on BMWs or Fords..... :)    If they work with the angled orientation of the throttle bodies on the FE intake?

Sure they will hide the clean design of the Weber like Borla EFI but they look period without that cheap appearance of the K&N rubber filter elements and they work.

With our MK IVs the hood clearance is the limiting factor but the filter elements are available in different heights and you will find some compromise between clearance and performance.

Thomas,

You opened a thread here and told all MK IV owners that:
- the look of the MK IV just not do it for you
- you would never consider a Cobra without leaf springs
- you are about to buy a superformance wannabe
- considering a Corvette as an alternative....
- you devide into AC owners and Autokraft owners
and finally you had some nice words for the folks here.

You are just in the wrong forum, sorry.

40
Sorry about that. I was just thinking out loud and here we see how the powers of the Internet can cause discomfort out of loose considerations.

By the way, if this is the A.C. Owners Club forum, are Autokraft owners supposed to lecture A.C. owners on what they may and may not post?

Ah , now it's down to business, I heard something about that difference in the past and thought it would no longer exist in the views here.

Thank you for your clear division into AC owners and Autokraft drivers.

Enjoy your car as often as possible! Great job!

Do you have Barry's "FE" book in your collection, it is a goog support for all FE drivers ?

I have a 331 in my earlier carburetted car since 2013 together wirh the original WC T5.

No problems till today. The 331 was a KC short block, the AFR heads ported by KC  I had on the shelf before to use it with the original 302.

The cam is choosen to make torque from bottom end up to 5000. The torque curve is quite flat and is extended by the hp curve ub to 6500.

The  combo is topped by a Weiand stealth intake a Holley Terminator Stealth EFI and a 65 Mustang air cleaner with blue base and  chrome top.

All the California smog legal parts are removed and the engine bay is quite nice now without too much modern look.

Bottom end is Eagle steel stroker crank with H-beam rods and flat top pistons.

Oil circuit is improoved by a Precision Oilpumps pump and steel pump drive. Oil pan is Canton road racing with original hight not to waste package below the main frame.

Exhaust is updated last year to stainless Spintech 2.5 " high Cruiser mufflers, headers are stainless by JBA.

Pedals era exchanged by Ford pedals made from flat material as used in diffeent Ford production cars.

Clutch actuation is hydraulik with specific master and slave combo working after some years of investigation

It is a all over satisfiying  combo without any necessary change to the car

You can't compare it to a big block FE which is a dream to drive(if you use an aluminum block it is also nice on small windy country roads ) and a complete different world.

Hi Michael,

well done, finally you found an other replacement part, working for our cars ! 👍👍

Michael,

the diameter or distance from center to cable surface on quadrant MUST be the same at the point where the cable is hooked to it.

If the Mercury part has a bigger diameter the cable will be bended up directly after the footbox to follow the bigger diameter quadrant.
That will cause friction and bending of the cable every time you push the pedal resulting in early cable damage.

I think it is even not possible to mount  the pedal to the pedal box with a much bigger diameter quadrant.
