This is the correct part of the forum.

   A 16/66 is a 1930s PVT.

Hi Colin, welcome to the club and AC ownership. Can't answer your question I'm afraid. Some cars have both a sandwich plate and a cross shaft. I would have thought remove the whole powertrain, I doubt it makes the job much longer.

Still has a current MOT and is SORN'd. Major gaps in its MOT history implying it has seen long periods in storage or possibly abroad. Seemingly very low mileage of 11,000, but don't depend upon this statement.

Have you talked to the UK importer of Koni dampers?

Two suggestions: 1. Join the AC Owners Club and ask the Aceca Registrar for some advice, and 2. Buy a copy of 'Original Ace and Cobra' by Rinsey Mills, it won't be cheap but will repay the price many times over.

Great specification and checks out with the register, except last known trim colour was red, but originally trim was beige so probably now been reverted to original. Engine rebuild by renowned company. Looks lovely. Radiator possibly uprated? Has electric cooling fan, a good upgrade, as is the wooden steering wheel, a period accessory. I would check the wheel size and tyres fitted, as they don't look like the period Michelins, but not necessarily a problem. At just over half the price of a similar spec Ace, priced about right too, in my opinion. Good luck and be quick, I don't think it will hang around.

I believe all were chromed but some pre-war ones were also enamelled.

Barry,

If you build a kit it will need to pass the SVA type approval test, which requires all sorts of deviations from the real Cobra specification. If buying a built  or partially finished kit, make sure it complies with the regulations so it can be registered, or it could cost you a fair bit of money to make it comply.

AC CRS Cobras usually sell in the £40k to £50k range; AC MkIVs perhaps double that, and Lightweight MkIVs perhaps treble.

Finished Hawk replicas possibly in the £25k to £40k range.

Other kits from £5k to £50k, excluding the exact replicas such as Kirkhams.

   Hope that helps. Good luck!

These are all rough guide prices, but give you an idea.

It appears to be a bonnet badge fitted to many AC vehicles from the 1930s to the 1970s and should be about 2" across (but I can measure one if yours is very different). They have a relatively small value because it looks as though it would need rechroming before use. An owner needing one would probably pay £8-10. You could advertise it on here for offers, or try your luck on eBay. Thanks for asking and I hope that helps.

You could talk to Classic Autos in Hertfordshire, I believe they have race-prepared many Aces. 01923 262994

Some do this because they compete with their cars and it is a requirement to fit a catch-tank for excessive oil fumes. All the ones I have seen have been hand made.

I use a simple piece of hose to listen to the volume of air being ingested by each carb to ensure the butterfly valves are set equally.

I would contact Gower and Lee for Solex carb spares and rebuilds, in the Watford area 01923 247300, in the first instance. http://www.gowerlee.dircon.co.uk/rebuild.html

Autosparks do a new loom at a very reasonable price, if yours is suspect. I was very happy with mine.
