Nik, Thanks for the posting, i tried manfully with your how to post instructions, even roped in a grandson but to no avail!

Emmanuel.Thank you for your information which supports the possibility that Ace 5.5 X 16 Michelin X were originally supplied from France or at least some of them were.

   Best regards to all,

Tim,
A quick call to Longstone Tyre with the question, is the current 16" x 5.50 Michelin X that they are supplying from the original mould? The story surrounding the tire when it again become available about 3 or 4 years ago, was that they were exact reproductions as they were from the original moulds dusted off by Michelin in France. Having said that, I think your evidence trumps mine.

   Regards

Second post from Parker. My Ace, AEX 1194 is fitted with the original option Girling front disc brake and the caliper rebuild kit supplied some years ago was TR4.  I hope that info may be of use.

I fitted 3 years ago, new Michelin X radial 5.50 x 16 which were the of course the original supplied tire for the Ace. These tires are prduced from the original Michelin molds. They were purchased from Longstone Tyre in the UK, see their ad as published regularly in Action. The tires are superb in every respect and none of the old problem of rear wheel arch scrub produced by the 185 Cinturatos etc.

I had an original clutch master cylinder fitted last year in my Ace, Girling part no.3112242  (current no. 148530) which I purchased from Octagon Motors here in Vancouver. Tel no. 604 253 4145 and ask for either Colin Fitzgerald (owner) or Dave Price.

Jim,

AEX 1194 was repainted in 1995 so you are right in questioning the originality of the colour however the paint was matched as closely as posible at that time using modern base coat-clear coat. The different colours of the two pictures is more likely due to the vagaries of photography especially reds, plus the uncrating picture negative when developed, was 35 years old.

I have Emailed Nik pictures of what looks like original ''Rouge Iris'' on AEX 456 which he might post if he wants to take this discussion further.

The picture of AEX 1194 on the dock at Vancouver Ballantyne Pier is my car arriving here Dec 16/60. I have other pictures of the shipping crate before dismantling and it is a fully enclosed box complete with lifting hooks. The car was wrapped in poly. I would be delighted to forward pictures but do not know how to download them onto the forum. If anyone is interested, Email me at jp7025@shaw.ca or call me in Vancouver, tel. no 604 263 7025, (note time diff. is GMT - 8hrs) and I will forward same by Email.

FYI, the paint colour of AEX 1194 was and remains Rouge Iris.

I converted (1993) my light weight gearbox to accept the Laycock A Type OD.It was a bolt on situation but did require a TR 6 Main shaft shaft (short) modified by boring front of shaft per original AC shaft. All other internals in the light weight box remained as originally supplied by AC,ie TR 3.The bell housing rear mount and rear mount remained again,as supplied by AC

There are two companies who can fix your Moss Box with new parts to restore the syncro! It is also possable to have the box rebuilt with a completely new set of gears which could offer better ratio's.
I believe also that close ratio gears may be fitted for performance, i believe this is approx £3,000, but to fit a new first syncro & new bearings & seals is about £600, but you best get a quote from the following.  ' sales@rw-racing.com ' or 'info@jb-engineering.co.uk '
A company called SC Parts can supply spares ' enquiries@scparts.co.uk '
