Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / BEX 437 INFORMATION?
« on: May 19, 2013, 22:35:30 »
News Flash

BEX 437 is found and is residing in West Vancouver after being barn stored since 1972. It has  been owned since then by Lyle Johanson who I met yesterday at the All British Field Meet yesterday in Vancouver. He advises that he drove the car for 2 years after puchase and then retired BEX 437 to a barn at his vineyard in the Okanagan Valley. He has changed  nothing with since his purchase and it still has the Chev 327 engine that he presumes Bob Constabaris installed for racing at Westwood etc. The second owner prior to Lyle Hanson was the installer of the flares and other mods.

Lyle has kindly invited me to come and see BEX 437 plus some early racing pictures while owned by Bob Constabaris. I will do so shortly.

   With best wishes to all

Gus,

Thank you for all your hard work and especially your enthusiasm for a Westcoast ACOC tour.

I agree with J. Jones comment suggesting a gathering of North American AC owners and hopefully some UK and EU members mixing in with hired Hertz Mustangs etc as the cost of transport and insurance seemed to be the stumbling block.

   Don't close the file!

I am shocked and appalled. Surely you are not referring to that noisey, overheating little war reparation lump.

Keith,

You may already know this bit of trivia, but the Van Man Van Rally was a popular and hotly contested timed rally that ran from Vancouver up the Lower Fraser Valley to Hope, 90 miles east of Vancouver, then continuing through very mountainous territory up the Hope Princeton Highway to the summit and the Lodge at Manning Provincial Park. The return trip was about 280 miles and usually took place in June.

Keith,

I checked my early correspondence with the ACOC and I purchased my badge, identical to the one posted by Nik, October /73 complete with apostrophe.

It has stood the test of time well except the white enamel of the letters AC has worn away leaving the chrome back ground, it looks rather smart and no legal trade mark conseqences!

The best part was the invoice for GBP 3.00 annual subscription, airmail postage for "club newsletter" GBP 2.00 and "club metal badge" GBP 1.00.

   Cheers,

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / CLB engine thermostat
« on: September 06, 2012, 01:15:15 »
Greg,

Some time ago (/97) I withdrew my CLB thermostat (AEX 1194) to check operating temps (they were opening at 160 F, fully opened at 172F) and noted the inscription on the top face as being "Smiths 3065/8-78C-172F".

More importantly for you though, I was advised by AC Spares at the time that should the thermostat need to be replaced, "fit aluminium washer to indentation in housing top face and size accordingly for a Ford bellows type replacement".

Hopefully this may of be some help, but I am sure the Forum will produce much more expert advice.

John,

RSX 5028 belongs to Paul Staiger who has owned his Ace 2.6 since new! He has a most delightful collection of correspondence from AC at the time of purchase of his Ace.

Paul lives at Boulder Creek CA and is a Member of the ACOC.

   Best regards to all

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / 2013 ACOC International in USA?

Gus,

I note that CFR Rinkens receives and ships from multiple West Coast ports. It might therefore be worth considering arriving at LA and the tour then proceeding North up through Big Sur, Napa etc. and then inland up to Portland OR, Seattle or Vancouver for the return shipment (or vice versa). Miles LA direct to; Portland 1000, Seattle 1200, Vancouver 1300.

Ace, Aceca & Greyhound Forum / Screen Washer Push Switch
« on: July 01, 2012, 22:07:56 »
Luke,

It is the top knurled cap I am after and I think these will do the job.

I must say I was a little hestitant to get on the Forum with such a miniscule item when there are such interesting posts concerning major rebuilds, tech stuff, racing etc.

At any rate, many thanks again.

Luke,

Thank you very much for your info regarding the push switches which have now been ordered from the Complete Automobilist.

I had to order the pack of 3. Now that I have cornered the world market for Lucas push switches, if anyboy wants one from my order let me know.

I remain constantly amazed how well our Forum works even for the smallest of items,

My mimeograph spares list for Ace and Aceca that I received from Thames Ditton in 1972 and dated 1 Feb. 1960, lists the Lucas windscreen wiper motor single speed as no. 073095 and windscreen wiper motor 2 speed as no. 75144A.

I hope this is of use.

Nik, Thanks for the posting, i tried manfully with your how to post instructions, even roped in a grandson but to no avail!

Emmanuel.Thank you for your information which supports the possibility that Ace 5.5 X 16 Michelin X were originally supplied from France or at least some of them were.
