Although not being a member of the Club not having a 428, how I wish it wasn't 3 inches long, I really appreciate it also being open to non-members offering the opportunity to showcase Derek Hurlock's lovely creation in perpetuity worldwide, otherwise it would have sadly soon been forgotten anywhere else.

Once again my grateful thanks to everyone in the Club….

428 Frua Forum / Help ID this AC 428 fastback in Ontario, Canada
« on: September 25, 2016, 11:45:00 »
Bit more info and an old post by Chuck Maddox I'd remembered (copied below), first clicking on the link in the first entry in CF 22, then on the second link below back to the the Club's forum brought up the following....

   1.
"The car is alive and well in California. LHD, auto, with Minilite wheels from factory. Original gold paint, original black leather. The 428 was sold to a man in Holland, I purchased it from his estate after his death, and imported it to the USA. The engine was rebuilt, balanced and blueprinted by the late Ak Miller, who raced Ford-engined specials up Pike's Peak. Very few miles on the car, I forget what the odomoter says."

Then scroll down to the entry by Chuck Maddox on 1st July 2007....

"I remember seeing [some 30 years ago] a letter to my father from the A.C. factory stating that two of these cars [in the 27-30 range] were exported to North America with the odd numbered one's going to either the USA and the Even's going to Canada or vice-versa. I have no idea where that paper is, but I strongly doubt it was ever thrown away. I will keep an eye out for it, though. One of these four cars I saw and rode in in the 1976-1978 epoch, it was a gray fastback in the Oakville/Greater Toronto Ontario area. At that time, it was in great mechanical shape, and I would suspect with a little detailing would have cleaned up to be in very good condition. But that was 30 years ago.

It occurs to me if the gentleman who owns #29 could share his example's particulars, we might be able to pencil in which numbers went to which country. I suppose we could assume it was one of the one's sent to America, but I don't think that this is a save assumption considering how many now seem to have migrated to different countries/continents .

Unfortunately, that's all my memory is able to assist at this time. If I unearth that letter from the factory, I'll post a scan of it.

   Hope this helps….

No idea unfortunately as the only identification apart from the early dashboard and left hand drive, are the twin tail pipes on both sides so at a guess it might perhaps be CF 22 as it's got the same as well....?

428 Frua Forum / R.I.P 428 classic cars august 2016

Thinking about this Aceca conversion recently, I saw a news story some time ago about a stationary MGB in a queue near Heathrow that was rear ended by a taxi still going at speed that caused it to immediately concertina unfortunately killing the driver instantly.

Being no expert at all but thinking about the huge chassis on the 428 and this Aceca built from a rolled 428, would a standard 428 chassis still meet today's much stricter safety standards without any alteration especially given the cross feed petrol pipes just behind the rear bumper....?

Thanks Keith interesting, I wonder if it's the same for other marques as well ?

Perhaps there's some sort of profit based system as distinct from club based voluntary ones out there which would parallel this situation and copy/ expand on that ?

Perhaps rope in some of the big international auctioneers for their thoughts as it might be in their long term interest too ?

Just my hap'orth to hopefully generate some thoughts on this enduring difficulty....

Agreed. Although the Register is up to date it's always solely from info posted on here so afraid I honestly don't know, wish I did.

I wonder if it's the same problem for all the other models on here as well...?

Hi Andreas and welcome to the forum.

As only 80 428s were ever made they rarely come up for sale these days, however have you not seen the post just below yours as CF 57 has just been put up for sale by Hexagon Classics in London....?

If you want any further info about 428s check out the Register via the link below.

Sounds a very good idea indeed, and whilst at it would it also be possible to suggest to him that could he authorise someone to act officially on his behalf on here and on-line generally as he is such a knowledgeable and valued expert on all things AC....?
